Does saying "gg" mean you agree to give up?
When a player says "gg" when it looks like they will ultimately lose, is that a formal concession and an agreement with your opponent that you will "give up"?
Another way to ask this, would you pass up an opportunity to Win a game solely b/c you said "gg" believing that you had no chance?

i am sorry, but i believe [player]jbrettlip[/player] and i, invented the fake surrender... i'll tell someone, "gg" or "looks like you got me" or "looks like you finally took it over," and then power back to kick their ass... many of us have come back from a few terits left on a map, to win... if you can get into your opponents head with a fake surrender, then get into his head... there is no "resign" button or "surrender" button on this site, so i play to the end... if you think someone typing "gg" is going to get you your points back after a C&A complaint, you are sorely mistaken... so, no, i don't think saying "gg" means you have to give up and hand over your points. i think it is a way to send some dudes out with a white flag, while i flank you out of the black forest in germany...-Jésus noir

No and no.
I say gg when I believe game is over, but I still try to win. Nobody ever complain of that.

Yea, this is my belief too. I just recently had an experienced player call me out saying that my simple "gg" when I thought I was going to lose meant that I would no longer try to win. I thought it was a little absurd.

I've had people complain about it.

and that game has nothing to do with what this thread is discussing. nobody in that game said "gg"... nobody in that game even posted in game chat... way to stay on topic... sigh... -Jésus noir
Nothing to do with thread? Nobody said gg? Nobody posted in game chat? Off topic?
You have either foed the players and cannot see the chat or your inability to make simple single accurate statements has expanded to a very serious degree. It is the exact case discussed here. Thanks for linking though, I could not do it, always forgetting the /.

I've had plenty of times when my opponent (or myself) gets screwed over by the dice and the game looks to be over, so one of us posts in chat "gg" or "looks like you've got it" ... then later one of us goofs, or the dice screw over the OTHER guy, and lo and behold it's a whole new game. It's all part of gamesmanship, and just because my opponent says gg doesn't mean I take my foot off the pedal either and change my game strategy. I fully expect him/her to continue to put up a fight, get cards, get that next escalating set that is going to turn the tide of battle. Or, the one turn I go 0-12 with the dice, and suddenly they come roaring back ...

Re: Does saying "gg" mean you agree to give up?
It seems like in practice "gg" often is short for "I don't like how this game has gone so far."
It does not necessarily mean "I give up."
Personally I try not to say "gg" in a losing context unless I really am conceding.
If I am going to win the game with a 99+% certainty, I say "gg" in order to give the opponent some dignity, to tell them "good game."
