Forfeit Button, What Am I Missing?

Post by premio53 »

I've seen a couple of comments on how a forfeit button would be abused. If someone wants to resign all they have to do is deadbeat out. How is deadbeating out any different than gracefully bowing out with a forfeit button and congratuating your opponent on a good game?

Abusers dumping points. I asked the same thing myself at one point because a forfeit button would be cool. I was told that there was one once?

Every so often, a loser comes along and decides to join and deadbeat speed games to lose points, then as a cook, he starts taking big points off big players. If caught they get banned. I remember one case who did this a lot before getting kicked for it. Forfeit button would make it easier if he could join last on 24 hr games and immediately deadbeat via forfeit

I would think that issue could be addressed separately.

Make it unavailable until a certain number of moves are played and/or one player/ team has a certain percentage of terits?

I can't figure out why they wouldn't have one.

Why not a button that ASKS the opponent(s) if they would allow a forfeit? If all accept than the forfeit takes place. This way the abuse wouldn't be possible. Even code it so that it can only be asked once or twice in a game, so some idiot doesn't keep requesting it.

I really can't figure out why CC wouldn't want to do this. Just my perspective - and personally I can't see a time when I would use it but then I am just a stubborn female not willing to give up. I do see how it would be beneficial though.

That doesn't solve the point dumping problem.

"Hey, would you like my points?"

Sure!

(both members accept the Forfeit offer).

There isn't really a difference. Most of the objections to the forfeit button have been based on quite poor reasoning and/or no longer apply to CC as it currently stands.

Like the fact that I can forfeit right before you kill me so you don't get my cards?

That was solved a long time ago in the forfeit discussions by requiring the resignation button to only work if all players agree to the resignation.

With new ownership of CC, all things are possible. What was rejected in the past may well be reconsidered.
But, not everything can be done at once. Some things have a higher priority and others are easier to implement.
I can't say either way if there will or won't be a forfeit button in the future or how far away it is if it is being considered as suggestions and programming is not an area I am directly involved in here. But I am reasonably confident this will be looked at.

And then if I decide not to accept your resignation I am holding you hostage? Lame.

And think about the Ratings Abuse that would happen after those situations....

*shrug* In multiplayer of course not, because of the cards issue. In 1v1 still no as long as you're reasonably making an effort to defeat them, although I don't see a good reason to play it out to completion if the victor is obvious and one of the two wants to quit.

To answer the question of your topic:

The ability to search for the tons of threads with this exact same subject/question to figure out your answer

Point dumping
multis
cheating
freemiums giving up easily to get a new game slot
friends helping friends to "level up"

If you want to give up a game early you can always:

Declare forfeit in chat to your opponent
Stack troops in a spot that is useless/buried/not attackable/not a threat
attack neutral troops degrading your troop count
work out time with opponents to finish up a game RT while you use the above tactics
