Ive just played a bunch of team games a lot of people have written stuff like this:

snap :: 2~?2䖁׸借ס氕í੅ᇆ౎工䯊垩ⱨ⣔ⶖ┳⌦ರ

To me, on my computer, it looks like just Chinese characters and webdings but I assume theyre trying to tell me something.

How do I go about reading it?

Those are called snapshots, and they basically record the state of the map at a certain point, so that after things change you can go back and see where people had their armies at a certain point in the past.
