MapStarter: Flower Wars

Post by dakky21 »

Map Name: Flower Wars
Mapmaker(s): [player]dakky21[/player]
Number of Territories: 46
Special Features: Winning Condition, Bombardments, Autodeploys
What Makes This Map Worthy of Being Made: Finished 3rd in GCCM contest

Small Map Image: 630x520

Big Map Image: 840x693
[bigimg]http://i39.tinypic.com/214ni9x.jpg[/bigimg]

Territory names WILL be changed. I'll leave them this way until the end, but suggestions are welcome.

MapStarted pledges are sorted in this way:

200 credits - your nickname will be one random territory (where it fits) (0/39 taken)
500 credits - your nickname on specific territory (if it isn't taken already, must fit without changing size of font) (2/39 taken)
500 credits - your CLAN name (in a short form, ie. FALL) on one random territory (0/39 taken)
1000 credits - your CLAN name (in a short form, ie. FALL) on one specific territory (0/39 taken)
(CASTLES are excluded from the above incentives AND the center of the flower)

2000 credits - your CLAN name (in a short form, ie. FALL) on a random CASTLE (1/6 taken)
5000 credits - anything you want (without profanity please) written in the center of the flower (0/1 taken)

First to pledge will get their incentive. Quantity is limited so hurry up.
When pledging, write what incentive you want and if it's a specific one, where on the current map.

You can pledge any amount you wish but if you don't claim for it I won't take it into account.

[spoiler=WHO PLEDGED]Dukasaur - 1200 creds - Asteroth to Dukasaur name change
IcePack - 2000 creds - FALL to random CASTLE
josko.ri - 500 creds - Rolaxgy to Josko name change
IcePack - 500 creds - Dracon to IcePack name change[/spoiler]

Total pledged (as of 06 Jan 2017): 4200

You sure you're not confusing this map with another submission? Perhaps this is a version of a map that looked markedly different though. Some of it is coming back to me.

OK dakky, nice to see this in the drafting room now that ManB has had some time alone.

Some advice for you. Leave the small map alone till we have sorted out the large one. No need to keep updating two maps till the large one is done. I have updated your thread title, can you please keep it updated as such (Title, date of update, page of update).

Some things to add.

You have a really nice sea texture to this map, it sort of looks like a really detailed mosaic. Try adding this as a texture (not a detail) to the whole map.
I really like the symbols you have for the flowers, but how about some colour to them? Also, some slight variation as well. Try to get the symbols to be spaced the same throughout the map. And a slightly less black would help. PM me with any questions.

The small map is resized big map (and the original PSD image is 3000x3000 pixels big), so I am updating only one image. Later today I will add texture to the land and color the symbols (ie. fire reddish, wind blueish, flowers greenish etc). Just not sure what you meant by same spacing of symbols?

Try to get all of the flowers and names spaced the same (all depending on the region size). So you can have the flower/symbol and the name on the same line or have them above and to the left a bit. So every time you look at a region, you can see all the information you need easily. As for colouring the symbols, try an inner glow for the colour.

The orignal PSD file was shared with Shannon Apple and BrucesWar. Maybe they will continue to make it, but I am going onto a new project.

Dug this up. Found original PSD since obviously Shannon and Bruce won't do anything.

I can restart this one for MapStarter.

Note that the current (finished) version is not final. I thought for last 3 years it is impossible to redesign the land due to bad layers and groups, but just found a way to make every possible change needed.

So what's a reasonable pledge? Should it be 21 credits, 600 credits or 1000 credits?

Since this is the first one I just want to clear it up. Am I misunderstanding something? In the announcement it said:

minimum amount of 1,000 Credits committed will be required for a map to proceed as a MapStarter

Yet this was approved before credits were committed. Can you clarify the new process?

after a concept is approved for MapStarter, players can pledge credits by posting in the map thread. after a map has 1,000 credits committed, it qualifies for MapStarter matching funds, to be paid out upon quenching.

Anyway, I'm waiting for some incentive to start work on the map again ;) you can now start your pledges ;) I guess you can pledge 21, 100 or 1000 creds or how much you wish. When the sum hits 1000, the map is qualified for MapStarter and I can begin working on the map :)

As on KickStarter, I'll give YOU some incentives to back me up....

200 credits - your nickname will be one random territory (where it fits) (0/39 taken)
500 credits - your nickname on specific territory (if it isn't taken already, must fit without changing size of font) (0/39 taken)

FALL) on a random CASTLE (0/6 taken)
5000 credits - anything you want (without profanity please) written in the center of the flower (0/1 taken)

First to pledge will get their incentive. Quantity is limited so hurry up.
When pledging, write what incentive you want and if it's a specific one, where on the current map.

When I get first 1000 credits pledge, I'll start updating the map with new names and start doing cosmetic changes as people request or ask. Note that I actually can't find the original PSD, I got version 35 and last one I had was 43 and since my Hard Drive became dead in the meantime, there will be some minor changes on the map, but we will fix or repeat them as we go through the map drawing process.

I love your ma starter incentives concept.

As promised, anything clan related I would get behind.
I pledge 2,000 credits for the (0/6) random castle FALL designation

WOW
That was quick. If other clans take their castles and some players their territs, what am I going to do with like 30k of credits ?!

I pledge 500 credits. The dragon territory Asteroth becomes Dukasaur.

Wow Dukasaur! Really. I'll need to update the OP so it reflects what has been claimed.
