should new recruits be able to play doubles games?

Post by Loudawg »

I would normally say that anyone should be able to do whatever they want as long as it doesnt directly affect someone else ..but twice now ..not that I play alot of doubles games .. I have joined a doubles game only to have some recruit jump on board with me and watch him deadbeat before its even our turn to play ... this sux for me because I feel like the only chance I have is a losers chance ... one more thing any suggestions to what I should do when this happens and playing it out just to get your ass kicked is a crappy suggestion I think .. they should be blocked from affecting other peoples games

I've thought long and hard about this and the reason I think they dead beat is because they think it would be fun to join a game and don't look at the type of game they are getting into. I have found what works sometimes is go to they're profile. See if they have an email IM or just the pm, Let them know they got into a doubles game. you are they're partner and you will work with them to help them have a fun time. this sometimes has the effect that they did not know it was doubles and they quit before it starts. or you get an opportunity to help a new person to play.... But the real solution is don't join a doubles game unless you have a partner already

and pardin.me.icus .. I have played one round yet .... I dont want to dead beat but I dont want to watch me get my ass handed to me for days either .. I have PM him and game chatted him for like two str8 days now and nothing .. oh and I'm just havin fun with your names guys dont get to upset and come kick me ass lol .. the next ime I see an opportunity to jump in late in a doubles game instead of crossing my fingers and hoping for a good partner I'll ask one of you to join with me in arms

If deadbeats are such a problem for you, make sure you are the last player to join a team so you know who's on your team.

don't join a team if it's a lot of new folks cause they probably will deadbeat on you and then its your fault

Maybe if the games where under separate lists with singles being the default the new recruit wouldnt join them so often .....I think they do just join the first game they see without looking and it may chase some people away ........

I think that recruits should be limited to what they can do .. everyone here knows they deadbeat alot .. alot of times are multi's ... I know not to cross my fingers and hope but to be smarter and not get involved .. I learn lessons here about this site alot .. but .. they are a problem and should be limited .. its only for five games then they can become privates and be free to do whatever the hell they want ..

more of a suggestion...so moved ;)

as for the whole new recruits issue, yes, large numbers of them do deadbeat, but this is one of the advantages of having a premium membership in that you can restrict who joins your game and when.

personally, and Lack may disagree with me, I dont think banning new members from doubles games is the answer, many people join specifically to play with/against friends of theirs and to force them one direction or another is quite a stick in the eye.

My suggestion would be to find a doubles partner before you join a doubles game as it is hard to trust a team member you have never played with or against before.

If we were to restrict new recuits from team games then team games would have to be put on a separate page.

But I'm not really in favour of this, anyway. I think a better approach is to re-word the homepage or put in some training features so that new recruits have a better idea of what they are getting themselves into. Then, hopefully, there would be less deadbeats.

I thought that when they beated, you got their armies?

It seems more helpful than hurtful.

well i think the easy answer is that you have to learn to live with it. your unlucky if a deadbeat joins your team but then you should be the last to join if you care so much. i hate deadbeats but its not going to go away plus in multi- games you only lose a couple of points.

Because of the number of people who register at this site, join a few games, and then never take a turn; I would like to propose a new rule. Do not allow new recruits to join doubles and triples games. In a standard game it doesn't really hurt the other players, but in a doubles or triples game, if one of your team mates doesn't play, you are almost assured to loose. This is not fair, and discourages people from joining public dubs and trips games. In an effort to curb this, I would like to see a rule that a player has to have completed 10 games, (ie not be a new recruit).

Secondly, many new players don't even notice the the game setup, and don't realize that they have joined a team game.

my first game was with a fellow new recruit.
That was the first (and only) game he/she ever completeled
Well, thats a lie, they didn't complete it. They deadbeated.
I won the game none-the-less.

I think it should be more of an option rather than a rule. I may want to play with a couple of my friends who just recently joined (I don't think any of them are new recruits anymore) just to show them like what to do and such.

What could be really cool would be like a point limit...where you select the minimum amount of points a player must have to join (and the minimum amount is shown). But I think this would pretty much do away with most private games, and probably clutter up the site more than it would help it (too many options?)
