This 16-player tournament will pit gunfighters against each other in a series of 1-on-1 duels. Do you have what it takes to survive and become the lone remaining gunslinger?

Players in this tournament will move through a randomly-seeded, 1v1, single-elimination bracket by winning their gun fights. To win a gun fight takes both speed and accuracy. Each round, players will play 2 games - one to determine each player's draw speed and shot accuracy. (View "Gun Fight Rules" for a detailed explanation on determining winners.)
A player must win their game in order to get a shot off at their opponent. The rounds it takes to win will determine both the speed of their draw and the accuracy of their shot. The quicker the draw, the less accurate the shot. If a player does not win their game, then they do not take a shot during the fight. The following chart will determine speed and accuracy.

Code: Select all

WIN IN x ROUNDS          SPEED          ACCURACY

4 or less                0.25 sec       75%
5 to 8                   0.50 sec       80%
9 to 11                  0.75 sec       85%
12 or more               1.00 sec       90%

Speed is obviously important, but accuracy is also important. Whoever draws their gun the fastest will have the first opportunity to shoot. Random.org will then be utilized in conjunction with the player's draw speed and accuracy rating to determine whether or not their shot hits their opponent. (Random.org will generate a number between 1 and 100. If the number falls at or below the player's accuracy rating, it is counted as a hit. Otherwise, it is considered a miss.) Provided they miss, the same process will be used on the slower player to determine their shot success.

Simply put, the player that draws their gun and shoots their opponent the quickest wins the duel.

If there is a tie after the initial duel (both players missed or both players drew at the same speed and successfully shot the other), a single additional game will be played to see who can get another shot off the quickest. The winner of that game will win the duel.

A study of 580 completed games with this map and settings was used to determine the speed/accuracy split for winning in X number of rounds.

Player A wins their draw game in 6 rounds (0.50-second draw with 80% accuracy).
Player B wins their draw game in 10 rounds (0.75-second draw with 85% accuracy).

Player A shoots first and hits Player B (Random.org Number: 11).
Player A wins the duel.

Player A loses their draw game (no shot).
Player B wins their draw game in 14 rounds (1.00-second draw with 90% accuracy).

Player B shoots first and hits Player A (Random.org Number: 70).
Player B wins the duel.

Player A wins their draw game in 11 rounds (0.75-second draw with 85% accuracy).
Player B loses their draw game (no shot).

Player A shoots first and misses Player B (Random.org Number: 98).
Player B does not get a shot off.

Player B gets a second shot off and hits Player A (wins the tiebreaker game).
Player B wins the duel.

how exactly does random.org decide if a shot hit? confused me?

Based on draw speed (how quickly you win), I take your accuracy and generate a random number. If that random number falls outside your accuracy rating, it's a miss.

Example: You win your draw game in 4 rounds. That's the quickest draw time, but your accuracy is 75%. I use Random.org to generate a random number between 1 and 100. If it falls within 1 and 75, it's a hit. If it's between 76 and 100, it's a miss.

I'll throw some examples in the original post too for anyone else that may want to see them.

so even if you win a game if random.org says you missed you could lose?

The chances are slim, but technically yes. Obviously, if you win both games, you guarantee that you won't lose until at least the 3rd game.
