I Shot a Man in Reno [Rescued]

[edit -tokle]This tournament has been rescued. New thread: viewtopic.php?f=91&t=161799

...but he was a Cook so I only got like 8 points.

Update: In addition to the trophy which goes to the winner, I am now also offering two General Achievement medals! One will go to the player who knocks out the most other players, and the second will be awarded to the player who survives the most all-ins. For the purposes of the second medal, a player must actually be wagering all his chips to be considered "all-in." So only one person in a 1v1 all-in game will be actually "all-in" unless both players have the same number of chips at the time the game initializes.

PLEASE READ: This is not a simple, ordinary tournament so for the love of all that is holy please read the rules as you will be held accountable for knowing them!

This tournament is going to be a simulation of a no-limit poker tournament where every game you play represents one hand of poker. I will create games of varying chip values and players will enter them at their own discretion. The winner of a game collects the amount of chips the game was worth from each losing player. For example, in a 4 person game worth 50 chips, the winner will collect 50 chips from each player, a 150 chip profit. The chip value of each game will be found in the game label.

Each player will start with 2000 chips. A player is eliminated from the tournament when they have 0 chips and are not in any games. The chip values of games available in the first round will be small, but will increase in every subsequent round. A player may enter as many games per round as he can afford. At no time may a player bet more than he has. A player with 250 chips remaining may not enter two games worth 150 chips each. If a player does not have enough chips to enter into the cheapest game offered that player may not enter a regular game and must put his remaining chips toward an all-in game (explained below).

There is no minimum number of games a player must play per round, but there is a penalty for each game less than 3 played per round equal to the lowest chip value of any game that round. This means playing zero games in a round will result in a penalty of 3 times the cheapest game that round. Playing 2 games in a round will result in a penalty of 1 times the cheapest game that round. This is done to mimic the "blind" system and keep the tournament moving.

Player's chip stacks update in real time, not just at the end of rounds. A player who has wagered all his chips may enter more games in that same round after he wins at least one of his games.

Beginning in round two, there will also be games labelled as "all-in" meaning that each player in that game is wagering all he has. In order to enter an all-in game a player must be in no other games, whether active or waiting. These games will be smaller, 2 players to start, and if the winner had more chips to start than the loser he gets all the losers chips and the loser is eliminated. If the player with the lesser chip stack wins he will win from his opponent an amount of chips equal to his own, doubling his stack. Once an all-in game has started, the player with the greater number of chips may enter other games provided he leaves enough chips free to cover his all-in opponent.

Round length will depend on how many games are continuing to be joined and how quickly games are finishing, but games for each round will be open for at least one week. As of right now I intend to let games from a previous round finish before starting another, but that may change.

The winner is of course the player who has all the chips in the end. I am currently setting no limit to the number of players.
Round 1 - 50, 100, 200
Round 2 - 100, 200, 300, 400, all-in
Round 3 - 150, 250, 400, 600, all-in

Round 10 - 2000, 4000, 8000, 12K, all-in
Chip values of any further rounds will simply double the previous round.

The maps and settings will be made up by me with the intention of keeping the tournament relatively fast-paced while allowing for a number of different play styles. There will be no Speed games and no team games, but everything else is possible, including Round Limits, though I make no guarantees. Like poker, you won't necessarily get the hands you really like to play.

Feel free to suggest a map and/or settings when you sign up and I may or may not include it/them at some point.

To enter you must not be a Recruit and you must have at least 97% turns taken. Players without Premium are welcome to join but know that no special consideration or handicap will be given. The minimum games penalty and all other rules apply equally to all players.

A player who finds himself with fewer chips than the cheapest game costs may still enter, but will only win an amount of chips equal to his own from each player. A player with only 50 chips to his name will not win more than 50 chips from each player, no matter how large the stated chip value of the game. In these cases the leftover chips would go the last player eliminated from the game.

Chips are taken from a player's stack based on when the games start. If a player with 75 chips joins two 50 chip games, the second game to initialize will be the game to which he contributes only 25 chips. Also, all games that initialize will be honored as fully as possible. This means if a player with 225 chips enters a 100 chip game and a 300 chip game he will contribute the full 100 toward the first game and only 125 toward the 300 game. Note this is only for covering mistakes as neither of the examples above would happen under completely correct play.

At the beginning of each round I will send out a PM to all players still alive with that round's password. I will give at least 48 hours' warning before closing the games for a round.

I will update the chip counts as often as I can, but please keep track of your own stack diligently. Spending more than you have will result in first a warning and second an expulsion.
Updated.

Also, don't be like the General here and please read the thread. I know I can be wordy, but I have tried to make the rules intuitive or at least straightforward so do me a favor and give them at least a once through.

In please.

Looks like well thought out rules to resemble a no-limit hold'em tournament. They are clear for the most part, but I think you have a contradiction:

2nd paragraph - "A player may enter as many games per round as he can afford. At no time may a player bet more than he has. A player with 250 chips remaining may not enter two games worth 150 chips each."

In the "other stuff" section - "Chips are taken from a player's stack based on when the games start. If a player with 75 chips joins two 50 chip games, the second game to initialize will be the game to which he contributes only 25 chips. Also, all games that initialize will be honored as fully as possible. This means if a player with 225 chips enters a 100 chip game and a 300 chip game (because those were the games closest to filling up, say) he will contribute the full 100 toward the first game and only 125 toward the 300 game."

Doesn't seem like you're allowed to join games in a fashion explained in the other stuff section based on what you said in the 2nd paragraph. And if your chip stack is less than the minimum amount of any game wouldn't you go into an all-in game?

Good catch. The second paragraph has been emended to say,

Also, Updated.
