This is a Tournament Players Association Year 2 (TPA2) event, and is governed by its rules, guidelines, and judgments. All are welcome to join and participate in the association. You need do nothing more than join one or more of the TPA events that will be announced each Monday. Check back on the TPA2 scoreboard in the Tournaments--> General Info forum to see how you're doing.
Freemiums Welcome. 2 slots (at most) needed at a time. This will cause some of the earlier round-robin groups to stretch a bit, but it shouldn't be too bad.
Arrr! This (tournament launch day) bein' International Talk Like a Pirate day and all, and me foolishly late awareness of such, means the theme here be a bit of a late addition... but the design of the ship be sound, so worry not yer heads about that, and get to playin'!
This is a Premier-level tournament for TPA2, based around 1v1 play. Freemiums are welcome, but are required to have at least 2 slots available for this tournament at all times, or face removal. INVITES WILL BE USED. MISSING TWO INVITES TO A GAME WILL LIKELY LEAD TO YOUR REMOVAL FROM THE TOURNAMENT.
All games will be Automatic, Sequential, Flat Rate, Adjacent, Fog. A 20-round cap shall exist in the first four rounds of the tournament. The final two rounds will be played with a 50-round cap in place.
So, ye think yer hard enough to be a Pirate? Let's see if ye can pass the tests...
Ninety of ye swabbies be placed inta groups of 6, to play cutthroat games of Poker against each other. The two of ye who've fleeced the others best move on...
Thirty of ye be taken to the British Isles, there to fight yer way across the land to get shanghaied on board a privateer. Only two of each five shall make it...
Those twelve go not to Shanghai, but to Hong Kong, to plunder the seas there until only half (two of each four of ye) remain...
The remainin' six go to the Caribbean, the haven and home all pirates dearly love, split inta 2 teams to plunder, until a third of ye fail to be good enough...
The last 4 be taken in irons to Oceania... aye, Australia and the islands around. Ye fight among yourselves, until 2 of ye grab a chance to escape...
Those final two battle in all the familiar places, until one conquers the other.

Round 1: 90 players shall be randomly into 15 groups of 6. Group play is 1v1, round-robin, on Poker Club. The 2 top players (best record, tiebreakers at the bottom) survive to Round 2.
Round 2: 30 players shall be randomly sorted into 6 groups of 5. Group play is 1v1, round-robin, on British Isles. The 2 top players (best record, tiebreakers at the bottom) survive to Round 3.
Round 3: 12 players shall be randomly sorted into 3 groups of 4. Group play is 1v1, round-robin, on Hong Kong. The 2 top players (best record, tiebreakers at the bottom) survive to Round 4.
Round 4: 6 players shall be randomly sorted into 2 groups of 3. Group play is 1v1, round-robin, on Caribbean Islands. The 2 top players (best record, tiebreakers at the bottom) survive to Round 5.
Round 5: 1 Group of 4 players. Group play is 1v1, round-robin, on Oceania. The 2 top players (best record, tiebreakers at the bottom) survive to Round 6/finals.
Round 6: The last 2 players shall play best-of-5 games, 1 on each of the 5 maps used previously, to determine who has escaped the Limeys to become a successful Pirate!
Tiebreakers will be based on head-to-head records. Where that is not useful, 1 game shall be made with the needed number of players to resolve the tie, on the map for that round.
SLIGHT CHANGE TO TIEBREAKERS:
If one player advancing is known, the second person to advance will be determined by a single game among the tied players, winner advancing.
If there is a tie for first advancing slot among 3+ players: Multiple singles games will be made. Winner of the first advances, second game to be made among the remaining tied players - winner becomes the second player to advance.
HEAD-TO-HEAD IS NO LONGER A FACTOR.
Placement for the TPA for this event:
Eliminated in the first round: Places 31-90, based on results. Highest rankings for lasting the longest - so people finishing second in a 3-way tiebreaker, then those finishing third; then those finishing 1-1 in a 1st round rematch, then 0-2 in a rematch; then those finishing 1-1 in the first matches, and lastly, those going 0-2 in the initial matches.
Eliminated in later rounds: 1-2 results, followed by 0-3 results, each round.
RESERVES ARE NOT ANTICIPATED TO BE USED. If someone signs up, and is forced to drop out before joining any round one games, a reserve will be used in that case. Once Round One begins, no players will be added to the tournament. Anyone dropping out between rounds will be replaced by the highest finisher who did not advance (who may not be from their division). Preference will go to any player who lost a tiebreaker game in the prior round. Random.org shall break any such ties that remain among the 'eliminated' players.
Questions Gleefully Accepted.
