Super-small maps

Post by ManBungalow »

Concise description:
  • Have massively scaled-down versions of certain maps which can be modified thusly.

Specifics/Details:
  • This doesn't mean scaling down the existing images, but instead means creating a new image (optional, of course), which can be used instead of the existing small/large images.
  • Imagine the current Classic map. Then look at the following image:
Assume the gameplay is the same as the Classic map. My point is really that all necessary information can be portrayed in such a small image.

How this will benefit the site and/or other comments:
  • As MrBenn stated in his map development thread, this kind of map would allow people to play CC on whatever hand-held gadgets are cool these days, and bring us one step closer to a functional app for such devices.

This would be a good topic to bring up in the Foundry Discussions forum, methinks.

That's what I was thinking. Get out of my head. I looked and didn't find a thread there yet.

I do think it's a good idea. I play some on my iPhone now, but it's a pain and there are some games I just won't play on there. If implemented, this would be a great caveat to the site. Except for stop adding territories (Antarctica) to my Classic map!! ;)

lol yeah, I held my LG Optimus up to the screen and could easily have a map double the size of the one posted (not bragging!) but this is a good idea!

I'm fairly certain he wants it to be available for maps to use, but not required.

Impossible. I have a phone bigger than an Iphone (HTC Inspire) and I still have to be really careful where I click.

And anyways, you couldn't be strategic on hive on a screen that small

So I assume the desired default behavior is that of a standard mobile version of a website with the small maps automatically loaded, with the option of changing to large maps?

I initially thought this would be a good idea, but after thinking longer, I don't.

I have to zoom in to be able to click properly and see what I'm doing on some maps already. Making a map smaller won't change the fact that I'll need to zoom in. I don't think it would help a whole lot. At least for iPhone use.

I think what a mobile phone version of the site needs is for the deployment menus to pop up on the bottom of the screen after like two to three seconds of not zooming in or scrolling.

This would greatly cut down on the time needed for turns, I think.
