Shit is hitting the fan over here, following the shooting and death of Mark Duggan on thursday by the police force in Tottenham, in what has been described but also categorically denied by the Independent Police Complaints Commission as a point blank assassination.

Riots and looting began last night in Tottenham and now have spread tonight to Enfield and Brixton.

Buildings and vehicles are being set ablaze, shops and businesses being smashed up and looted.

Terrible, terrible scenes right now and a developing story.

Well I'm going back to elephant and castle tomorrow, which is in South/Central London, it is a roughish area with a large police presence at the best of times, I've heard from other people that there are just loads of police on the street all over London and it would be too dangerous to riot right now. Tottenham has been savaged hard though.

A shop in the road I live in was trashed last night. expensive designer gear

This morning when i drove past it, the wire shutters looked like they had been ripped off by tying a rope to them and a car pull them off. Every window was smashed and there were a couple of old bill standing outside.

Apparently 3 policemen were mown down in my last road last night by joy riders.

The supermarket round the corner had been attacked

Drove my girlfriend to work and 12 miles away in sleepy Newbury Park, a JD sports superstore had a boarded up window plus the steel shutters had been smashed in.

I work 1 mile from the centre of the riots. A guy came back from a site visit at 3:15 pm and said everyone was shutting up shop. Banks, supermarkets small shops - everything and everyone is in lock down mode.

A roller shutter repair firm will have a red hot phone this week.

Drove home from work and it's madness out there. gangs of teenagers everywhere in broad daylight just waiting for the right time to split the police and start looting a new area. All these kids are keeping upto speed with mobiles and they are very fluid with disbanding / reforming. This is going to get really bad tonight.
Police cars flying about like headless chickens. Buses in roads that don't have a bus route.
Currently there is a riot in Hackney and in Southgate. It's only half five and it's not dark.

There is a fire in deptford right now, shop next to Greggs set ablaze and it is spreading. Riots in hackney and lewisham and a bus set ablaze in Peckham, driving back to elephant and castle later, which the blogosphere are indicating might be next to feature riots, going to be a fun journey.

Half past seven in London and I cannot buy a beer.
All shops and pubs are shut by order of the police.

NOW THIS IS FUCKING SERIOUS. WITHIN A 300 YARD RADIUS OF MY FRONT DOOR I CAN BUY A BEER ON CHRISTMAS DAY OR I CAN BUY A BEER AT 4 IN THE MORNING.

I WANT A BEER!!!!

Well I got to elephant and castle safely, drove through a big riot in whitechapel though - that was fucking frightening, there was a big group of muslims defending a mosque and on the other side a bunch of people, mainly black attacking and smashing glass on a tescos and jd sports and taunting the muslims and people were running accross the road.

Violence is all over London now, crazy fire in Croydon on the news, spread to Romford, Ilford, Birmingham and Leeds.

Damn, busses are being targetted, I saw one had been burnt in Peckham earlier.

Drove through Ilford and Romford, stuck to the main roads though so didn't see much, reports were the high streets had been closed off after shit had been going off.
