Tournament Players Association Year 2
This is a Premier Event.
Sonic goes Back to School
Headmaster Sonic here; welcome to orientation. This is the start of a brand new season of the TPA, so what better way to begin than with a ‘back to school’ tournament.
This tournament will consist of SIX 6-player games with Escalating Terminator Automatic Chained Sequential Sunny settings in each round. The terminator element is possibly a reflection on my own schooldays. I will keep this available to freemiums by issuing a maximum of 2 games per player. If you are freemium you will need to keep 2 slots available to avoid missing classes.
You will need to pick 6 (and only six) subjects from the 12 First Year subjects listed in the Year 1 spoiler below. If you simply can’t choose then just say “Sorting Hat, please” instead of listing subjects on your registration form and random.org will decide for you. Please fill in a school registration form like this sample one, which you can copy (or plagiarise I believe they call it nowadays) and paste into the thread below:
School Registration Form
Name: sonicsteve
Subjects: English, Economics, Maths, French, Sports, Astronomy.
Declaration: I have read the school rules and agree to abide by them. I accept that if the class I apply for is oversubscribed, I shall study an alternative subject picked for me by the sorting hat.
The majority of applicants should get all of the subjects they apply for, since (with 72 entrants) there will be an average of 6 classes per subject, the most popular subjects will get more classes, and I would expect students requesting the sorting hat option to fill most of the gaps.
If you try to enter with “in, please” or something similar I will know you have not read the rules.

Year 1 subjects and corresponding maps are:
Art – Doodle Earth
Astronomy – Space
Beekeeping – Hive (note that beekeeping classes will be first on the timetable and unlimited forts will be available in this subject only)
Classics – Peloponnessian War
Economics – Age of Merchants
English Language - England
French – France
Geography – Classic
History – Flanders 1302
Maths - Random
Spanish – Iberia
Sports – Cricket

Pupils will be awarded marks according to how long they lasted before being terminated by a fellow student.
Knocked out 1st – 1 point (dunce)
Knocked out 2nd – 2 point
Knocked out 3rd – 3 point
Knocked out 4th – 4 point
Knocked out last – 6 point
Game winner – 8 points (star pupil)
One bonus point will be awarded for each student you terminate, so a clean sweep is worth 13 points.
I have had a GA medal approved for this tournament. It will be awarded to the pupil who terminates the greatest number of unique students.
I have applied for and been granted 2 further GA medals
lindax already approved a medal for most kills across 3 rounds.
On reflection I think it is a pretty decent accomplishment to top the leaderboard for Round 1 and 2, out of 120 and 80 players respectively. DJ Teflon agreed, so there will be a GA medal for the winner of each of the first two rounds.
TPA scoring will be based on player positions in the final league table in accordance with the system described in the main TPA Year 2 thread
Moving on at the end of Year 1. Once all pupils have studied all 6 subjects, a league table will be prepared and the worst performing students in the bottom third of the table (i.e. the 40 students with the lowest marks) will leave the school. Tied places will be decided by a game on CCU with the same settings as the main tournament, but only where necessary to determine who leaves the school.
Year 2. 8 advanced subjects will be available for study, and again you will choose 6 lessons or be placed in the sorting hat.
Year 2 ‘advanced’ level subjects and corresponding maps will be:
Advanced Astronomy – Solar System
American Studies – First Nations North America
Arabic – Middle East
Environmental Science – Extreme Global Warming
French History – France 1789
Geography 2.1 – World 2.1
Modern History – WWII Poland
Statistics – Random
At the end of year 2, half of the remaining students will leave the school (i.e. a further 40 students will leave), again this will be decided by their place in the league table. Tied places will be decided by a game on CCU with the same settings as the main tournament, but only where necessary to determine who leaves the school.
Year 3. 4 ‘University’ level subjects will be available, so in this year you may specialise by nominating the same subject as your ‘major’ up to 3 times. You will still need to make a total of 6 nominations.
Year 3 subjects will be:
Business Studies – City Mogul
Media - Woodboro
Politics – US Senate
Psychology – Random
At the end of year 3, the player with the best overall academic record (i.e. the most points in their final year) will win the tournament.
If a player drops out of the tournament, their class size will be reduced to 5 and the student terminated first shall earn 2 points, etc. The student making the final kill will be deemed to have swept the board and will earn a kill point for the missing student.
I will usually make three attempts to get a student into class before continuing the lesson without them
