Looking at the starts i would say we need it bad... some quick stats...

Tsm starts in 14 of 16 games
IA starts in 2 of 16 games
and 3 games havent started...

a small bonus was dropped in one quad game for the starting guy on TSM
and in two of the starts tsm took 2 and 3 regions dropping 3 to start...

all signs point to a long set for IA

well have a look the dice in this games... this is a joke allready...

of these 3, I would say dice 75% drop 20% first turn 5%. first turn is often worth only 3 troops while rolling 0-2 dice instead of 2-0 in only one rolling is worth 4 troops, more than first turn advantage. and often in 1 turn it happens 3-4 rollings.

I'm thinking dice and drop are two biggest, although in a 1v1 on a big map with many bonuses, going first could be worth 5 or 10 extra armies. You could break your opponent down a good deal on the first turn. However, for games with more players I think its probably dice and drop are bigger and first turn is very small. I think josko's 5% for first turn seems right for team games, although I think dice and drop are closer to equal imo.

I would prefer to take the 5% 14 times to just 2 times thanks
