Battleship [abandoned]

Have you ever played Battleship? Well, get ready for Battleship Conquer Club style! The format for this tournament is somewhat complicated, so be sure to read everything that follows. While this tournament is going to be rather long, freemiums are welcome as long as they can keep 2 slots open for the tournament.
[spoiler=Structure and Rules]Players & Teams
Players join this tournament individually. Immediately preceding the beginning of the tournament, all of the players will be divided into teams of four. Players will be grouped by me in such a way as to make the teams as even as possible. The highest ranking player in each team becomes the team captain. Teams will compete against each other in a single-elimination bracket and will be seeded randomly (random.org).
Rounds & Games
In order to advance to the next round a team must win a game of Battleship. The game will be played on the following board.
[bigimg]http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa170/brannonch/ConquerClub/Battleship/Board.png[/bigimg]
Each team receives 7 ships to place on the board. These include an aircraft carrier (5 spaces), a battleship (4 spaces), two cruisers (3 spaces), two submarines (3 spaces), and a destroyer (2 spaces). At the beginning of each round, the team captains will send me their ship configurations via private message. I will make a post requesting those configurations, and team captains will have 48 hours to send them to me. If I do not receive them, they will be randomized. There is one rule for ship configurations - adjacent ships must have at least one space between them (up, down, and diagonal). Team captains are free to decide whether or not they will consult with their teammates when setting up their ships. Ship configurations may not be changed during a round. I will then setup the board for each team. These boards will not be available for public view, and will look similar to the following.
[bigimg]http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa170/brannonch/ConquerClub/Battleship/SampleBoard.png[/bigimg]
Each Battleship game is composed of a series of salvos that continues until one team emerges victorious. Upon beginning a salvo the team captains will post the grid locations (i.e. - b7) on the opposing team's board that their team will be attacking and who is attacking at each location. There can be a total of 4 attacks (1 by each team member) per salvo. The opposing team captains will then post who will defend at each grid location. Team captains are free to decide whether or not they will consult with their teammates when making these assignments. I will make a post to begin each salvo. Failure to post attack grid locations within 48 hours of the beginning of a salvo will result in 4 random, available grid locations being selected. Failure to post attackers or defenders will result in my choosing them.
The results of each attack will be decided by a single Conquer Club game between the attacker and defender. The games will be setup as follows.

If the attacker wins the game, the grid location being attacked will be revealed as either a hit or a miss. If the defender wins the game, the grid location will remain hidden, leaving the attacking team with no further information about that location other than the fact that they attacked it. Failure to join a game after 2 invites will be treated as a forfeit by the offending player. Exceptions may be made during the first round to allow freemiums to obtain open slots. If a player forfeits more than 1 game, they will be removed from the tournament and replaced with a reserve.
A public board for each team in each round will be available for view. After all of the attacks in a salvo are complete, all public boards will be updated and the next salvo will start (provided no team has won). Here is an example of a team's public board after a few salvos.

Each symbol on the board represents a grid state. No symbol means the opposing team has not yet attacked that grid location. A wave means the attacking team shot at that grid location and recorded a miss. Flames represent a successful hit by the opposing team. The shield means that grid location was successfully defended from the opposing team's attack. Jolly Rogers indicate that a ship has been sunk. They are accompanied by the image of the ship.
Once all of a team's ships have been sunk, the game of Battleship is over, and the opposing team moves on to the next round.
