South Park and what the f*ck censorship?

Censorship is for commies

Guys, wtf? I wanted to think this was some meta-joke but it appears to be legit. Comedy Central censored the latest episode after threats.

Super Best Friends (the 5th season episode where Muhammad was shown) is unavailable on the web too. It had been available previously without problems but now suddenly it's not? Wtf?

Image

"In the 14 years we’ve been doing South Park we have never done a show that we couldn’t stand behind. We delivered our version of the show to Comedy Central and they made a determination to alter the episode. It wasn’t some meta-joke on our part. Comedy Central added the bleeps. In fact, Kyle’s customary final speech was about intimidation and fear. It didn’t mention Muhammad at all but it got bleeped too. We’ll be back next week with a whole new show about something completely different and we’ll see what happens to it."

I'm glad we finally agree on something. I figured I'd make my topic more generic though to cover a much larger scope of things I disagree with.

Woah. That's f***** up. Especially after their "Family Guy" episode and stuff. It's pretty much like the same thing.

Radical people are f****** annoying. It was a minor joke at the least, NOT EVEN MAKING FUN OF MOHAMED OR ISLAM, and, like always, they flip s***.

I have to agree as well. I watched that episode earlier this week and was kind of surprised that in 200 they said Mohamed multiple times, albeit with everyone constantly asking, "Can we say that?" Then, in 201, they bleeped the name Mohamed every single time. I thought they were intentionally taking the joke one step further, but apparently not. I'm completely opposed to bigotry against Muslims. I had some friends in graduate school that were fairly devout, and I'm sickened by how often terms like "Islamofacist" are tossed around (primarily from the neo-cons). But you have to admit that issuing death threats against people that simply use the name of your prophet (not even the deity of your religion!) in a manner that really wasn't disrespectful is only going to incite a great deal of ire against your faith.

Edit: Replaced "racism" against Muslims with "bigotry" against Muslims.

First of all your use of the word "racism" is erroneous. Muslims are no more a race than homosexuals and yet the word is bandied about by Liberals with regards to both. Islam is a religion and homosexuality is a sexual preference. There are people of all races in the Islamic religion and people of all races who are homosexual. Applying the term "racism" in these cases is ignorant at best and usually simply a dishonest bullshit form of propaganda.

I hate Islam because it is a violent oppressive religion. I hate Catholicism for the same reason, although it's only violent and oppressive when in power, which is no longer the case. The Scriptures that Catholicism is supposedly based on do not support such violence or oppression - those of Islam do. I have friends who are Muslims too, but i don't amend my view of reality because of our friendship any more than i do with friends i have who are White Power advocates. They're both fucking fascist beliefs and playing that down just makes you ignorant, gullible and quite honestly a nutless coweyed pusscake.

This isn't the first time that these "Islamofacists" have brought censorship to this country. Anyone remember Salmon Rushdie and his book "The Satanic Letters"? Try finding a copy at Waldenbooks or B. Dalton. "Islamofacist", while definitely offensive, is actually quite an apt term for someone who threatens anyone who would dare to question or degrade their beliefs.

I say it's a fucking shame that it takes a censored episode of South Park to wake some people up to these facts. Go figure.

I believe the matter is that, for muslims, you can't say Mohamed on TV. Perhaps they are bargaining and let the 200 untouched but 201 was too much?

These fanatics can blow up a building for a thing like that. Maybe they made a real threat. Who knoes, but it is fucked up.

I do have all the episodes of south park from season 1 to season 12 tho :D

Lol. I actually believed they just took the whole joke to the next level by purposely beeping out 'his' name.
So they listen to the islam demands by not showing a picture of 'him', and they're still pissed?

F*ck that shit.

Does anyone remember the movie 2012? They showed all these monuments being destroyed, but the film makers decided to remove the one some Islamic relic (I don't know which one, and frankly don't care) because the didn't want a fatwa declared on them. Someone needs to realize that everyone doesn't have to change their behavior because of a few. It is sickening. And that is why Mohammad is my avatar.

Your point is well taken, and I've argued much the same way myself elsewhere. However, I think the term is at least partially acceptable in this particular context. In the minds of many Americans, "Muslim" is equivalent with "Person of Middle Eastern decent." Hatred directed at people from the Middle East based on a stereotype of radical Islam fits well with the classic definition of racism.

Despite what Americans may or may not think, most Muslims are not Arabs.

Ok i'll go with "partially acceptable", but then i'd have to say justifiable. They're not being discriminated against because of their race but because of their religion.

Indonesian and Malaysian Muslims make up the largest portion of Muslims in the world if I am not mistaken. But for the most part, people associate Arab with Muslims, because of colonialism, neo-colonialism, the Arab-Israeli Wars of the 20th century, and expansion of Oil Diplomacy in the Gulf States, and of course popular culture representations (Lawrence of Arabia, The Sheik, etc).

Yes but remember you can't count Libya if you say other than Arabs. Egypt either, so what alternate race are these African Muslims who are "not Arabs" and where are they?

Most Muslims may not be Arabs, but most Arabs are Muslims..

Just to be clear, we're talking in the hundreds of millions range.

I'm not sure what you're point was supposed to be, but my guess is that this is the counter to it..

... While at university in Japan, a university professor was killed, hacked to pieces in his apartment.

... The professor was translating "The Satanic Verses" to Japanese, due to the fame the book had received after all the fuss.

Waitaminute . . . if my memory (and knowledge of world geography based on conquerclub maps) serves me correctly, Indonesia and Malaysia are little bitty places, and yet you're going to try to convince me that these two mini-countries hold more Muslims than the entire Middle East along with Libya and Egypt??? Are you daft?

Most of North Africa is muslim, there are also sizeable muslim demographics in eastern europe and indonesia, india and Bangladesh. (Indonesia has the largest amount of muslims.)

About 20% of muslims are Arab.
