The rankings are arbitrary -- n00b to newb

Post by mookhaz »

This is my win strategy for a new player:

Join doubles and triples games. They are more intimate than quads, and singles can get boring. If you enjoy singles, this might not be for you.

Next, play many maps. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it right away. the key will make things clear after a game or two, and then that map should be a back of the hand experience, after spending days or weeks looking at it.

Ask your partner questions. If they are knowledgeable about the game, or the map, try to learn from them. If you win, analyze the chemistry between you and your partner. Did you argue about anything? If there was a blunder did someone get easily upset, or were they forgiving?

If someone played a team game with you, had good conversation and was truly a pleasure to play with -- win or lose -- then this might be a potential future teammate.

Invite this person to another game or two, and test your luck again. Make sure your winds weren't flukes. I've found about two or three very good partners this way on many different kinds of maps. Fractured America, Charleston, New World, Feudal. The best part: even if you lose the game you still have a new ally, and quite possibly a new friend. That's a win situation for me.

Not to mention your win rate should go up, if you care for that sort of thing.

I've only been playing since January, but these are my best tips to those starting out. Good luck!

I stopped reading right here.

Never join team games with people you don't know. Changes are, your partner will be a cook who doesn't know what he's doing and deadbeats on round 5.

If you want to find team partners, go to callouts forum and post there that you're looking for one. You'll be less likely to end up with deadbeats.

For beginner players, it's usually best to stick to a few simple maps, and play them until you learn them. It's best to leave the more complex maps for later.

Most of my pards I hooked up with after challenging games and ass whoopings AND decent chat repertoire.

You will find your team dice/play work well with some peeps and not at all with others.

Try several pards and give it a few games. You'll find someone that everything clicks with. A CC arranged marriage per se.

Over time you'll find that you'll be able to anticipate what you're partner will do, and will slowly stop communicating with each other. Years down the line you'll forget how good you were as a team, and how fun things were when you were still trying to find out what made each other tick... That's when you'll stop wanting to share the cleaning-up, and will see it as nothing more than a chore.... Congratulations - you've now arrived in domestic conquerland!

Obviously you didn't!

Maybe "back in the good old days," or something. I wasn't around then. Maybe it is more common than I think it is, or that I have experienced. In 2 and a half months I've landed more good partners than bad. If you get a bad partner, shrug it off and move on. This isn't a dating site, and if it were, there is no problem with hooking up with a cook now and again.

Fair enough. I have about 3 or four maps I really enjoy, but the only way I found them is through exploration of all that this game has to offer. I didn't just eyeball the maps and discover my favorites that way.

I think anyone who is old enough to file a tax return should be able to jump into some of the more difficult maps and learn them as they go, within a few games. As long as the map is fun, it won't feel like a chore to learn it.

Well I would, if less than 99.999% of public games weren't standard mode! Would it be a good idea to start my own game and hope people join?

Also, what would you guys say about Assassin? I want to try that out once I finish one of my 4 games, but I'm not sure how complicated/simple/entertaining it is.

You haven't completed 5 games yet. This means that if you want to play something different then standard, you'll have to start the game yourself. You can only join games with standard settings and a max. of 5 players, on a select number of maps.

I didn't know that, thanks for telling me!

I guess I'll start the game myself once I get the chance, but will other members be able to see the game or will I have to invite people? And how many maps am I limited to before I complete 5 games?
