Just today, my gmail and the attached facebook account were hacked. The scanner I am using didn't bring anything up, so I was wondering if anyone here knew of some free ones that I could download that might catch that sort of thing if it was on my computer.

a few you can try...Malwarebytes, anti malware . . . I run this one regularly.F-Secure Online ScannerSTOPzillaIf you search online and find a program called Malware Defender
RUN AWAY!
It's a scam that infects, then detects and tries to sell you the cure.
It is disguised to look like a microsoft product, don't let them in.

Thank you very much. Malwarebytes did find an infected file.
Now I just need to recover the passwords.

but that should be much of a problem.

I also like AVG, it is usually pretty effective.

While watching that, I got the same jittery weird but fun "OH SHIT, THEY"RE ON TO US!" feeling just like from Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.

Free: Avira is the best, you don't even notice you have it installed. It has an annoying pop-up tho, but if you google it, you find the solution for that.
Non Free: Nod32, is a bit lighter than Avira, a bit better.
AVG is good, but a is heavier on resources.
There are those who say Karpersky is the best of all, but I haven't tried it. It isn't free.

I can vouch for AVG being really heavy on resources. I have to leave it running for the night because scanning on the background slows the computer waaay too much. And usually it takes about 2 nights to scan the whole computer... so I'm going to give Avira a shot, I've heard good things about it.
Btw I'd like to know, do I need to uninstall AVG first before running the installation program for Avira? Or can I do it the other way around?

AVG actually allowed some malware to get through my computer. Now I use Avast
