The Hill text has been replaced with Mountain.
Text for the bonuses realigned for better visibilty
UPDATE END

6th UPDATE 2-17-07
The bonuses have been decided and the new pic is on page 11.
There was some concern that the R1,R2,R3,R4 corner had some visual issues that made them all appear to touch. I have since fixed that and now R1 touches R3 too. Take a look on page 11.
UPDATE END

5th UPDATE 2-9-07
The map on the bottom of Page 8 has 45 territories which better allows people to play the mountains. Please vote for the bonus you feel is best
Poll Answer 1: Current pick of the map
Red=8, Green=6, Blue=5, Purple=3, Yellow=2,
2 Shape Groups =1, All 3 Shape Groups = 3
2 Kings=1, 3 Kings=3, 4 Kings=5, 5 Kings=7
Poll Answer 2: Current pick but the shape groups get 1 bonus for holding each
Red=8, Green=6, Blue=5, Purple=3, Yellow=2
Triangle Group=1, Circle Group=1, Square Group=1
2 Kings=1, 3 Kings=3, 4 Kings=5, 5 Kings=7
Poll Answer 3: Current pick but the shape groups get 1 bonus for holding each and the bonus for holding 2 kings is eliminated
Red=8, Green=6, Blue=5, Purple=3, Yellow=2
Triangle Group=1, Circle Group=1, Square Group=1
3 Kings=2, 4 Kings=4, 5 Kings=7

UPDATE END

4th UPDATE 2-6-07
There has been some interest in having bonuses for 2,3,4 and 5 kings
The newest pic shows this in the key.
UPDATE END

3rd UPDATE 1-30-07
We are now going to decide on Bonuses. Please vote.
UPDATE END

2nd UPDATE
The new map is on page 7 with the XML
UPDATE END

UPDATE
There have been so many people asking for both Natural and abstract I need them to make a decision. I will be posting a new Abstract version sometime this weekend. But I want to know which style most people want.
UPDATE END

I have not had time to make a key yet, but I figured that if nobody likes it I am not going to waste any more time.
Image

Basically it is a 2 1/2 D pic. ;-)

I wanted to make a different looking map.
The way it works is each colored "hill" has a peak and each peak can attack any other peak. Securing a single color is now a little more difficult.

Color___________Territories__Boarders___Bonus
(HILLS)
Red_____________11________6_________?
Green___________10________4_________?
Blue_____________8_________4________?
Purple___________5__________4________?
Yellow___________3__________3________?
------
White Cylinder_____5_________3________?
White Triangle_____4_________4_________?
White Cube_______3_________3_________?
-------
Own any 2 hill tops +1
Own any 3 Hill tops +2
Own any 4 hill tops +3
Own any 5 Hill tops +4

My name Ideas were Red King Red1, Red2, ... Blue King, Blue 1 you get the idea. Let me know what you think.

It's certainly interesting.
I like it, but it may find greter appeal if you were to do it on say, a mountain range or skyscrapers, or something with a similar look.

I would give it a try....
but it reminds me of three of my least favorite maps, crossword, circus maximus, and space

That would be sweet if you could somehow make it into mountains or something. something real that people could relate with. I dont believe there is an everest map yet.

I really like the idea of having a 3D map. It is new, it is fresh, and a nice change of pace.

I understand what you guys are saying but it is abstract. It is king of the hill. How many "5 tower king of the hills" are there in this world? To make a map work like this finding a picture in the real world is going to be nearly impossible. The map is designed to show 3D. If I had a mountain range all I would be doing is overlaying colors on a picture. Thanks for the thoughts.

Aside from the abstractness, what about the layout?

I like it as is, and it doesn't seem like a 'weird' map to me.

The idea is certainly playable. Kudos for bringing something original to the foundry.

There's a lot of 'hiding' on this map - everybody gets an australia. This could be good or bad depending on how you like your games to go down.

As for the look of the map, abstract is fine but it may lack appeal. As a first grade teacher, I immediately think of building blocks when I look at this. A map of silly building blocks would be an absolute hoot, while a map of computer generated 3-D shapes against a flat blackground is just kinda sad.

And why merge the shapes together if you're only going to conenct the bottom layer in most cases? I'd rather see freestanding blocks connected via ground lines.

The idea of possible skyscrapers....perhaps in 'CC City' would be an interesting idea to play with.

He did mention that holding the top of a tower lets you attack the top of any other tower, so it is more connected then it looks. I picked the needs work part though because it obviously isn't done. You need to have a legend explaining things somewhere on it and a small version as well as bonuses for each tower.

A couple of potential visual ideas (because I love the core concept, but like some others the current look leaves me a bit cold):

1. Turn the towers into children's stacking toys, blocks and rings and Lincoln logs, and make the stray (currently gray and abstract) continents toy trains and teddy bears and call it the CC Nursery

2. Go with the skyscraper battle concept. I don't know what the licensing issues are with public buildings, but potentially you could turn the 'hills' into stylized versions of actual distinctive skyscrapers (Empire State Building, Petronas Towers, Sears Tower, Bank of China building in Hong Kong, etc.) with the aforementioned stray continents as 'smaller buildings of note', like a Pyramid or the Taj Mahal. The trick will be finding buildings that can be differentiated chromatically as much as possible, so the map isn't a grayscale wasteland.

3. Perhaps a Vegas theme, where the hills are casinos and key territories are linked by a rollercoaster. Again, there's potentially a licensing issue.

4. You could even do a Seven Wonders of the World theme, where there's five 'towers' and two outliers.

After some thought, the licensing issue seems moot. I mean, if people can sell postcards of the Hollywood sign, CC should be able to theoretically 'profit' off the use of public buildings for pseudo-military purposes.

I suppose it speaks to the strength of the core concept that it can skinned with a variety of visual themes.

That's pretty much the idea I've been wanting to use to make a 3D map. I know I posted in one of the 3D threads that I could make a real 3D image and have it rotate so you could truly see the dimensions...but that would be fairly impractical. It's funny because this is similar to the map I wanted to design except I was going to use buildings for mine (I can't work on it until I'm back at school next week and I have AutoCAD).

Widow- what program did you use to make the drawing?

Just a note- I don't see how an image of a building could be copyrighted if you create that image yourself. If you chose to use someones artwork or pictures you might have issues, but creating your own image of a building or structure should not cause any copyright issues.

That's what I figured...

I love the idea of fighting amongst the skyscrapers. If I had a modicum of talent with photoshop or whatever program is best for mapmaking, I'd take a stab at it, but unfortunately I am but a humble wordsmith...

Looks like a great idea... Skyscraper graphics sound the best, although I do like the idea of pyramids. 3D looking maps seem to be an area that could be interesting.

I like the idea of multiple hills, but I think that the top should somehow be worth something more. like perhaps a single bonus army if the top half of the hill. Also, it may be helpful to either eliminate the little buildings at the bottom, or make them more traditional territories.

While I appreciate the effort and thought put into the map, I don't see how it's any different to the geometery map and for me has no appeal.

A 3D city map that works on the same principles would be more interesting. You could use helipads as means of getting from rooftop to rooftop, buses or trains to get from place to place on the ground. You could incorporate a park, lake, bay, etc for some more variety and use areas such as Business, Residential, Downtown, Industrial and so on for continents.

It's basically like the idea I had in my head for a neighbourhood/real estate map for future development, but I think the 3D twist would make it better.
