Viking map

Post by bonobo`s son »

Me and my brother (lone.prophet) came up with the idea of making a viking map.

Every player begins with 1 citadel.
Around the citadel there are regions which give you bonus (they start out neutral)
There are raidlands (uk and the netherlands) which also give you a bonus if you kept them, The raidlands you own will become neutral at the beginning of your turn.
The 2 tradeposts (falkland and poland) will also give bonuses to the one who keeps them.

This is what we got so far:

Please tell what you think of this idea and tell if you got other ideas for this map.

the geographical area is way too small.. Iceland, Ireland and Normandy?
Those were important viking areas.

a little more research before you decide what geographical area to cover, please..
you are also missing parts of Norway and Denmark - Those were the countries most associated with viking raids so you should include all of their lands at the time.
Hedeby was perhaps the most powerful viking town of all and it´s not even playable?

Based on the pre-map, it looks like it accommodates only 6 players and all maps have to accommodate 8.

I dunno, i like the idea in general, but I think the gameplay needs some more development.

I am only being blunt so that you wont miss crucial things.. just trying to provide helpful facts really. I kind of like the idea.
Denmark needs to be larger. Haithabu/hedeby was further south in what is now Germany.
It was pretty much THE viking capital during all of the "viking age.
If I wanted to see you fail with this idea I wouldn´t provide helful info. ;)

Is it possible to give a bonus for the raidlands AND have them be killer neutrals as well? I suppose it depends on the order of processing. I think this question came up somewhere before but I don't quite recall where, perhaps in the Foundry Tips & Discussions forum.
