i know, but this is supposed to be 2.2

He took a picture of 2.1 and kept the legend, it's not like it's done or anything. Personally, I'd suggest pork you make a new legend for "3.0", if you go ahead with this … i guess …

It's incredible this topic has gotten so many replies without even a draft! Really, porkenbeans, throw us a bone here.

I really dont think you understand, exactly how serious I am about how impossible it is to get rid of world 2.1. You cant do it. It is as classic as classic now, and there is no benefit to changing it. None. Make as many alternatives as you want...but make no mistake of the resistance you will find to any attempt to get rid of World...

I know this map inside and out... I know most of the players who play it, and I know they will say the same thing I am saying.

Dont take this the wrong way here either...Im just letting you know how deeply people like this map, and how important it is. For me, It is CC, and for many others it is too. Hell, I practically miss the brunei-sumatra border issues of the original World map...but agree, that had to be fixed. ;)
I invite you to read this thread, starting at the beginning.

I invite you to you re-title it something else.. world 2.2 clearly implies a 2.1 upgrade...... and you wouldn't be the first to suggest it... granted, its never anyone that actually plays the thing that thinks it should be changed

Just change the name

It's fine to want an expanded version of the world, but you will not be able to create a map that is as wide as you are suggesting.

There are pretty stringent size limitations. World 2.1 is the only map that was allowed to be bigger than the limits because it was created before the limits were put in place.

So go ahead and try to create a World 3.0 with all of the countries of the world. I would like to see a good attempt at that map, and it might be possible with zoom boxes. But please start with the proper dimensions because you will never be able to scale it down appropriately after starting.

OK, Heres' what I want to attempt. In the style of 2.2, create a world map with all of the countries included. This will indeed, be quite a difficult endeavor, as map size restrictions make it impossible. However, I would still like to give it a shot. I wish that the powers that be, realize the uniqueness of this project, and lift the restriction. I would suggest a design competition be implemented so we can come up with an all inclusive, real world map.

The winning design will no doubt become CCs' Signature map, so I believe that it should be CCs' largest map. Just my opinion, but one that I believe is shared by most. It seems that the "large" map is widely preferred as of late. So, this one unique project should be required to be a certain size. The size is up to CC. I just hope that CC will concur, and announce a World map design competition. I am very eager to work on this project. :D

Porkenbeans, you have great talent. I agree with all the others that such great talent would be better used if you looked for a more original concept, or even if you joined one of the concepts looking for a graphics artist.

I am not the first to say that, but I invite you again to browse all the threads in the ideas forum. I bet you will probably find one you like.

I'm all for the design competition (mostly because I'm jealous that pork gets to make this map ;) ). I think it would have higher quality overall if it was done this way. :)

Yes, What started out as a revamp, has evolved into a quest for a large world map that includes all the countries of the world. Also, this proposition lends itself nicely to the call for a large "Signature" map.

I would call again, for a CC competition that will produce this map. :D

The ball is in CCs' court. If they should surprise the hell out of me, and announce a world map competition, I would invite one or two of you, to join me and Zim on this project. He does not have a whole lot of time to devote, but likes my proposed style. So, his name will be represented on my map. Zimbabwe will be renamed Zimsbabwe.

2.1 is not a BAD map. And the idea of it being a world map is not bad either. As a matter of fact, a world map, is the BEST idea you can possibly come up with, for this kind of site. So, it remains as the absolute best choice for a Signature map. A signature map should be a map that is, a little more than just "not bad". C'mon CC, Lets' have a "World Map" design contest, that includes ALL of the countries. :D

CAN I GET A SECOND ?

Oh, I also thought of a possible name for CC's new map. WORLD 2009. Representing both the era of the countries and borders, as well as when the map was made.

even if they don't make a competition we can still have one nothing stopping someone from making a forum with different maps on and people vote on which people prefer

I like it. i gotta say, though, don't wait on the contest MAKE world 2009 and POST IT IN DRAFTS with ALL the world's countries
no one's gonna stop you. your graphics are different enough from anything we have at the moment that if you DON'T bring up that you're wanting to revamp 2.1, no one will think of it.

why name it zimsbabwe, that makes the map not acurate, and not a world map. It would make the map fictional

its going to be near impossible to have every country. you would need all of the carribean islands, all of the small territories around europe.

In World 2.1 the "Zim" part is italicized. I think that would be sufficient here. ;)

After you get the map up, click on it to enlarge. That is the min. size that it would need to be. I have tweaked the hell out of the land masses, to hopefully be able to fit them all in.
Could someone tell me about these size restrictions. Is this map too big ? If so, how do we go about getting the restrictions lifted for this special project ?

So, it's not going to be an accurate map? You're enlarging regions with lots of small countries? I thought you'd just enlarge the small regions like qwert does in WWII Europe or Imperium Romanum.

Maybe people will prefer it this way, though. We'll see if there's ever a contest. 8-)

I just threw something together to show a possible solution, to fit all the countries in. But the map would need to be close to this size.

And yes the geography will not be real life accurate, but all of the political borders will.
Anyway, Just a thought, thought I would throw it out there in the discussion. One way or anther, I hope that this thread will produce a solution. The idea of a political world map, that is all inclusive, ...is just plain SICK. :D
