Richard the Lionheart, Saladin, William the Conquerer, Barbarossa, Rommel, and Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto. Good commander, Yamamoto, just had no choice but to attack Pearl Harbor (he didn't want to, as he knew it would be disastrous for the Japanese). Then you also have Nodunaga Oda, Cao Cao, Zhuge Liang, and several other commanders from those times (whose names escape me).

Hitler had some brilliant people underneath him, Rommel included, but in and of himself he was not a military genuis. Quite the opposite in fact.
true, when Goring told him that the Germans were not completely ready for a full scale invasion of the USSR, he didn't bother listening

I'm sitting in a class on World War Two and I just asked my professor if there's any one man who can be attributed with devolping the Blitzkrieg. The answer? Heinz Guderian
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heinz_Gude ... z_GuderianWhat I'm hearing is that Guderian developed the strategy and Rommel was the one who first used it to great success.

Winner. And no, Scipio Africanus isn't one up on him... he beat Hannibal w/ two or three times Hannibal's troops and much better equipment and training. Hannibal, almost without contest... only one I might put up against him is Tamerlane. You think Genghis Khan was good...

Has anyone mentioned RAMBO
He knows how to take out an entire VC camp all by himself. I rest my case.

Hannibal was good, but at Zama, they both had about 40,000 troops or so, but Hannibal had elephants as well, just that the Roman troops opened up paths for the elephants to run straight through, making them about harmless.

This may be the best answer that anyone has provided here. If only we could know whether or not it was written by one person or if there were many contributors.
