We're full up as of brikb, so haggis and boss, I've got you two down as reserves in case anyone drops out along the way. If we get enough extra interest, there's the possibility of adding in a 16th game, giving us 64 players, which is nice for those of us with binary leanings... but other than that, I'll keep you as spares.
All games should now be started (or within the next day). There are only 2 spots left to be filled and pm's have been sent.
Remember to post your victory, and the order of eliminations in your game here in the forum when done.

Oh, and from the game chat commentary in all the games

yes, the Battle of Actium isn't my favourite map either, but we cant' have a historical battle tourney without it, and unfortunately it came first chronologically. Next round should be better, but please all try play the best you can

Remember, points, and GLORY are on the line!

Oooo. I just realized this tournament is going to take forever. 7 games times 3 rounds. That's 21 periods of flat-rate games, each one taking at least 2 weeks, and if the next set doesn't start until all of the first set finishes, I think we're looking at at least a month. 2009 anyone?
A thousand bucks this gets abandoned or revised. Not to be a pessimist... =)

Simplest revision: divisionize at LEAST the second round. Third round is only one group, so could be simultaneous match on the 7 maps, if no non-premiums remain. 13 non-premium players in right now...
With non-premiums, even divisional play will not notably speed things up, as they couldn't even get into all their games. I think the first round, at least, will have to play out as scheduled... yes, this will take QUITE some time. I forsee a lot of dropping. Having too many subs may not be too bad, since if someone drops between ROUNDS, at least, they can be removed, just drop their score. Top 16 (20 works for RR, not for divisional) go to round 2...
*shrug* I'll be here, plugging away. Tieryn set this up. I agree with pjdonald's analysis... but I don't see a ready solution, given the number of games in a round, and the "shuffled round robin" format.

Points noted folks,
Hmm, well, If the non-prem players were willing to part with a second slot, I could start the second round up. I'll pm them all and ask. Hopefully they'll say yes (I mean, a game's a game, right?) and if so I'll set up the next round starting this weekend, then with 2 games going at once we could halve the playing time, and if we do get down to none (or very few) np's in the second and third rounds, we could work on 3/4/7 games at once.
I'll see what the response is from the np's.
I'm not certain I see how 16 rather than 20 would work better for the second round, given that we're taking the top 4 scorers.. (not that I'm saying it doesn't, just that I don't see it) so if you could pm me more info expanding that that'd be great.

Don't forget, the 3456 League took a dang long time too.

2 months of runtime on 3456 to date... and the first round is BASICALLY done. That pesky division 2 is holding things up, because the one person in it who can't advance refuses to just die and give the game/division to anyone... (heh)
And it's looking to run MAYBE that much longer for the latter/final round.
As I said above, I DO NOT have a problem with a long tournament, I fully expect to be here. HOWEVER, pjdonald is correct, I don't think anyone expected this long.
7 matches/maps per round, at most 2 at a time, due to the round-robin shuffling effect. Each map will take approximately one month, since you can't really start #3 until ALL the #1s are done (NP players). Assume:
Start a new map/match every other week, matches lasting 4 weeks... (optimistic on most of these maps)... yields 16 weeks to run round 1, and then again for 2. Possibly that long again for 3. That's nearly a year, or close to 3 times as long as 3456 is expected to run.

Haha I'm with Opty it will take a while. Haha 3456, yes I know I have no chance to advance, I'm guessing that might have been a poke at me in the last comment. lol. Regardless, the long walk tourney is still trucking along strong with dedicated members. It has been going on for 3 months and just finished the first round elimination. It has at least a year more to go. Same with the NHL league, it's been going on forever as well and is still going strong.
I'm all for these long tourneys if their directors can stick it out and are dedicated.

Nah, digging at myself, actually... the only person in Division 2 without a hope of advancing, and fighting to the bitter end. Actually, just won one of the last 4 games in the division.
...Okay, I'm glad to hear folks are in for the long haul.

Yep, I'm certainly in for the long haul, and most np players have responded positively to giving up another slot, so the second round of games will be starting this weekend, on Siege! Keep an eye out!
Also, I've already replaced one player, but it's possible more will drop along the way (or their premiums might run out!) so if anyone else is interested as going down as a reserve, feel free to keep posting. I will however, only be accepting reserves with premium membership (to not further compound the current problem).
I suppose I should have specified prem. required at the outset

well, those of you without it, I encourage you all to get on board and support the site that allows you to waste your time in a fun, enjoyable way! It's only $20, Save that half a carton, and let yourself loose!

That's nearly a year [for historical battles], or close to 3 times as long as 3456 is expected to run.
Yeah, don't dig me too hard Opty. I did say when I set 3456 up that the 1st round would end around the 1st week of November, and as I recall you were pessimistic about that. You may turn out to be right if Kinnison keeps his heels dug in. lol. or kidstrumpet. And I think Kin's estimate of a year is too low.

I can't wait until the siege begins!!! The Battle of Actium is just a bunch polygons and it is hard to finish since the map is so large!

So, in my game I won,
1st Tieryn
2nd Ln2Blaze
3rd AleksandarMaced.
4th Strider24
Siege games will be created tonight, please be sure to join them before the weekend is up if possible. A few non-premium players are unable to commit an extra slot, although most of them are able. So I will create the games, but a couple may have to wait.
Well done all

Order of elimination:
1.) Rahimj_27
2.) Optimus Prime
3.) dfp2dep - missed two consecutive turns so possible deadbeater
Winner: scottie

dpf2dep is not 'deadbeater'. But he does usually miss one turn in all games somewhere in each weekend. It looks like something happened 'early' this time, which may cause some deadbeating in current games. But it's not typical for him, I've been in several tournaments against him recently.
<edit> Oh, and it seems he's taking turns again, as of 1am today... at least in one game I checked, trying to see how long he was out.
