I think the borders would benefit from all being the same color instead of different for each region.

You should make the artwork look like Japanese style woodcuts.

you should really make hokkaido the right size. if you move the legend to below the map then hokkaido can be used to fill up the empty space.

I admit that I haven't read this thread (or even looked at the map). I decided to look at the latest comment and I saw the results of the poll. From what I can glean, the people who bothered to respond are overwhelmingly in favor of continuing on the map. Alas, there were fewer than 15 people who even bothered to respond. Does this map actually have interest?

That having been said - I'll now go through the thread and give it my honest feedback.

EDIT: Unit_2,

I apologize for using your map to demonstrate a point. I have seen from other discussions that you receive criticism for having a lot of ideas. Having a lot of ideas is a GOOD thing. The people around here just want them a little more formulated before presentation. Again, I did not mean to single you out and I apologize.

I like the darker color scheme. However, you definitely want to avoid using any blue on Japan - there's SO much blue as water takes up more than half of the map. Also, try not to use the same color for two terr groups (blue with green border and blue with red border).

One suggestion - the southernmost grouping (Green with red borders) could be put inside a box with dots connecting back [move the box near the other boxed terrs]. This would allow you to cut some of the water from the bottom and maybe even move the legend slightly right.

I agree with Cairnswk, the water does have a lot happening, whilst the texture is more sedate on land.

Your orange island has no connections to the rest of the map. Actually, neither does the green grouping (unless it just touches the blue grouping with green borders).

I liked the bullet train from previous posts.

until you work out playability issues, maybe you could lose or turn down the ocean pattern... i can't make out the attack routes over the water.

More in keeping with Japan, you might want to use Red or White for the territory names. Again, the teal names with all that blue water - too much blue.

i know, i am changing the color of the names, there only that way so they will show on the texture i'm going to use.

Why no D?

Anyway, I voted B because it looks more... mountain-y. Maybe you could find a satellite image or something, and overlay it to show the real texture. From what I've seen, Japan has small coasts that quickly slope upward to inland mountains.

D is overrated.

I voted E because it is trendy.

you have set your poll for 0 days which means it is still running. you really should place a number in the box when setting a poll, and also state somewhere in the thread or poll question when the poll finishes. this way it lets people know more info about the poll.
Having a poll that doesn't allow poeple to voice their opinion hardly seems worthwhile and is not a good indicator of what the forum might want.
A suggestion...if you are going to do a poll then at least let it run for 7 days, this way people who might vote and come into the site only 1 a week get a say also. Not everyone checks the forum on a daily basis.
I wanted to vote (which i did ) but found that (after 1 or possibly 2 days) you have decided the poll was finished and you were going to run with option C on the voice of about 8 people  :?:

So can the current poll be deleted?

Now some feedback on the latest image.
* I have no issue with the texture although it was not my choice.
* I would prefer to see the colours from option D in the poll as the colour for the terts, as they lean more to the Japenese colour schemes which as i have stated before are subtle.
* I'm pleased that you have (finally) placed some correspndiong colours in the legend.
* I feel the water is not the correct colour for Japan, and i know you are going to add texture.
* You still have to reduce you map down to 600 px wide

Are you still working in Paint or have you progressed to another software package?

no, don't delete the poll, i will open it again.

what color do you think the sea needs to be?

i know i have to reduce it still, so here is what i thought of, moving the very bottom island and move it up near the top one.

no, i am no longer useing paint, i am using GIMP V2.2 .

maybe hokkaido could be more than 1? or lower the others? esp if you are gonna add sea and train routes.
i dont remember who said it but that would be cool if you could add terrain like mountains, etc that are impassable or something, like the british isles map.
