Are you all fucking stupid? I never said we should not have athletes... I said they should not be paid the way they are.

Don't misquote me.

If someone makes 50,000,000 off of someones abilities, you are saying they don't deserve a decent cut of that money ?

You're not making much sense mate.

Of course it is great for them... But what I am saying is that NO, it isn't fair... It isn't fair to social workers, public school teachers, etc...

Hell, if I hadn't broke my knee and was still playing soccer, I would have my scholarship... But that didn't happen. But I never intended on making a career out of it... I did it because I loved it. Still do.

So, Huckleberry, I actually AGREE with you... But I do not think that it is fair or just.

The payment of public service workers is the fault of your government, and for the record, i think ambulance men should be paid more than soccer players, but the value the world puts on certain skills has been set in stone for many hundreds of years......cest la vei.

See, you are arguing the same thing as me now, brother... That is what I am saying...

You thought I was arguing something that I was not...

And I agree with the fault lying with our government... But it's that same government that allows sports stars to be [aid more than some small third-world countries make per year.

I take you back to my original point, but rephrase it.

Would 200,000,000 people watch a halftime show that consisted of doctors treating athletes foot ?

No, but they would pay for the right to watch two groups of grown men punt a pig skin around a grassy field...heck, grass optional. They deserve to be paid that much, because the revenue they produce warrants that. Until all entertainment is government controlled so the government can re-distrabute it, it is as it is....and i think it is probably better this way .

No, it absolutely shouldnt be that way. Your right, I'd rather watch football than doctors treating athlete's foot, but just because it is more interesting doesnt mean it is morally right. Doctors spend their whole lives researching, helping people, and they dont get as much credit as a dumbass 7'5 f*ck hitting another dumbass 7'5 f*ck. It just isnt right....

And i just want to re-route this argument. Although these professional wrestlers are gifted tremendously athleticly, i think they should be more compared to actors/stunt men. Not that i dont acknowledge the physical strain they do to entertain, they truly are entertainers. The actual wrestling they do is not real, and the majority of whats on television now is drama based on the much of the episodes being talking and backstage interviews.

But even actors benefit society. they use their stardom to address issues throughout the world. Osmeo sports starts do it, but it is mostly actors who give large donations to charity, who speak about issues in public, and help. Seldom i see a sports star doing that.

Sorry for going back far in the thread but this caught my eye.

You're putting athletes down for doing what they love? I suppose a doctor, who loves being a doctor, should receive the same treatment. After all, it wouldn't be fair to not pay an athlete who does what he loves while a doctor is making a living from it?

This from the pompous jackass who believes that Vince McMahon is dead?!

good God cena, you 'tard, you're not seriously going to argue the point that bus drivers cause pollution?!!! The more people who catch public transport, the less cars there are on the roads, and therefore less pollution from motor vehicles ](*,)

I don't agree with the amount that celebrities get paid - whether it's Kylie Minogue, David Beckham or Chris Benoit - but the fact remains that as long as people pay money to watch these people perform, they will continue getting the kind of exorbitant salaries they get.

Actually, many of the athletes people believe to be the pompous jackasses of sports usually donate the most. One of them being Chad Johnson, wide receiver of the Cincinatti Bengals. He is at the moment doing several sport-related events to raise tons money to charity.

Hey, im not arguing that they get overpaid. But a good majority of them do have a good heart and give back to the world. And you cant really blame them for getting paid as much as they do, its the owners and general managers of the teams that decide how much to pay them...

Your a moron, steroids lead to chemical imbalances, and this man was a wrestler for 20 years; thus using them a long time. That certain chemical imbalance could have lead to his acts of insanity. Or it could have something to do with the anniversary of the death of his late best friend, Eddie Guererro. Although I'm not sure of his actual death date.
But anyway, my point is, he became mentaly unstable, and, yes, he killed them! But you people saying you have no respect for him, I dissagree with you, he was uncontrollable. You cannot lose all respect for a man who falls victim to the evils of such a trajedy as this

As long as people want to be entertained on a constant basis and are willing to pay the money to be entertained, Sport star salaries will continue to rise.
Doctors, lawyers, teachers, policemen, firemen, these are the true heros and should be payed accordingly, but socitity doesn't work like that.
The world isn't perfect, it's the sad truth of life, people die, but eveytime someone dies, someone is born, and the world moves on.
I can see why he was a role model to some, I won't argue that he was/wasn't, people deal with shock or stress in many ways, one of which is denial. You can believe all you want that he didn't kill his family (I personally don't see how he could have done such a horrible thing) but if science proves it, then he did it
Arguing if he was a good man is pointless, since none of us knew him personally, we have no say on how good/bad he was, so I say we move on, not forget, but move on from his death and learn that life is fragile, and that you should enjoy every minute of it, or else, it will be gone

I object to this. The vast sums that the top sportsmen and entertainers (and others, such as business executives etc) get paid nowadays - compared to people lower down the scale - is a relatively new phenomenon. Society doesn't have to work like that, and it didn't do so to anything like the same extent, both in America and Britain, as recently as 25 years ago. And there is no fundamental reason why it has to continue the way it does.

no need to get insulting, jeesh. And after re-reading your post my comment stands. the cosolidation or distribution of wealth ebbs and flows throughout history. For many centuries the wealth was in the hands of the few, nobility, clergy and later the merchant class. As the merchant class became more entrenched we see the evolution of the middle class. wealth is now being more evenly distributed amongst the populace. Engel and Marx start writing/publishing and the basic tennants of communism/socialism are formed. we see a growing distribution of wealth into the 1950's-60's during the post-wwII economic boom in the US. That was the peak for distributed wealth, now thanks to factors such as globalization the person at the top of the pyramid gets the biggest check. I'm not saying its right, honestly i've been a cubicle slave so i know it sucks balls, but to assert that its a "relatively new phenomena", is just incorrect. it would be more true to claim the opposite, the idea of distrubuted wealth is far newer

Remember these are only the reportings of what the police think happened. For all you know, they could be totally fucking wrong (e.g. Bob Woolmer...) So i'd keep all the snide, 'I think I'm above all of you because I know I'm always right and all you are wrong' comments to yourselves unless you happen to be a world-renowned pathologist/forensics expert and would like to visit the crime scene and confirm it for yourself.
