Seems the Big Guys said the change was to enhance the interface for Mobile devices.
Why could there not be an option for "Mobile Devices" and an Option for
regular computers? Seems like a win win to me................... 8-[

because "regular computers" are being killed off an app at a time.

deal with it. it's inevitable.

It is worse for mobile devices! The maps are so damn tiny now. Why are there two columns? Single column layouts are almost always best for a mobile version.

+1 seriously! It is harder on my phone to take my turns. Especially on the big maps.

this game DOES require large screens. Maybe they should split the site into two versions. The new one has all the small maps and scenarios and the like, and the the old one is more tradtional supported by the current user ba$e.

U$ER BA$E.

We paid to make thi$ $hit happen.

I$ my point obviou$ enough?

Whoops the beta team forgot to try all options, this is truly Abysmal. The game also has an abysmal stealth sequence that is about 1 percent fun and 99 percent aggravation.

Echo most of what has been said.

I personaly don't like this change. It offers me nothing at all and just hacks me off as it wastes my time a) learning it and b) using it. I was about to end couple of months fremium but if I go back to 30 plus games this will be a royal PITA. I will wait and see if CC are actually listening to feedback.

As has already been said. Give users an option for old presentation. It wasn't broken, some people's idea of improvement (designers) doesn't accord with everyone. If you give an option you can then determine what is most popular and understand what your users really want.
------------------
More generally...

There are a number of changes occurring. Change has to happen to keep things moving. Not all change will be good and the update mech should take into account current users views and allow for backout. It seems that it currently doesn't do either of these.

I don't know how many users use CC or whether the community is primarily repeat users or there is constant change and new ones form the majority, but with this approach it will more likely be the latter over time.

Don't like it ... Don't like change ... Just want to play a decent game without having to try an figure out how to play my games with all the changes that are implemented. Can't we have an Original Conquer Club ... choice. You may remember that nobody liked New Coke. I have dropped from 40 games a month to less than 10, just because it is harder to keep up.

Why don't you implement changes like dropping all ratings of people who have been out of CC for over 5 years? Or having them removed from un-started games after a year of inactivity?

I like the mobile ... computer choice if that was the reason for this change. Bee

That is kind of the point.

Name a website you visit regularly that hasn't changed in 8 years.

I can think of 1.

I can think of three that I use regularly that haven't made significant changes.

Google.com
The Drudge Report
Rpol.net

All three of these sites focus on utility and minimalism, and they work. =)

Yes, this. My "real job" is business analysis. For a website like CC, customer captivity (i.e., the psychological habit of users going back regularly to familiar websites) is everything. You screw with that at your peril. Any changes should be tiny incremental things that unambiguously improve the user experience -- that's it.

The problem with site redesigns is they create an opening for your customers to start checking out your competitors because you've broken that customer captivity.

Your examples are good ones. I'd also add Digg.com and how that site committed suicide and pushed its users to Reddit. Reddit has been smart by the way and has kept its clean, fast, simple design. Reddit won't win any design awards, but it sure has a loyal user base.

Also, Craigslist is another example of a site that's ridiculously profitable and has been, luckily for them, smart enough to avoid fucking with the interface or "improving" the design.

Generally a poor change

Do the actual games designers read the forums or are we wasting our time posting here?

Disagree with an earlier person moaning about the dice btw - dice are fine and random imho

I also do not like the change. More difficult to see at a glance what is going on. Interaction is more difficult, not easier. I understand change and continuous improvement but I'm not sure who decided this provided an improved experience for users? What problem was it trying to solve? If it was intended as a mobile fix there is no reason it could not lay out differently on different sized screens. I'm just glad I'm not the one having to deal with the user backlash for this one. But it's bad enough that I'm not renewing premium and will go dormant after my current games are done. Will check back in a few months.

this view makes finding games a real struggle. at best this should be an opt in/out on the settings panel. hate it

you can realize how bad it is if you do a search for your games from the game finder menu... your result pops up in the old format and it is all SOOOO CLEAR@!!! i have been using this method to avoid the Central Command... seriously, i want to see the map, i want to know WHEN i have to take my turn by, not how much time remains... i want it clear and organized like the old way... sigh... i admitted when i was wrong about global chat (i love it now), i hope i can say the same thing about CENTRAL COMMAND when they are done with it all (i hope they are not done)... sigh...-Jésus noir

In my years on CC, I haven't been the most active user, but not the least active as well. I've shared my opinions across the boards. Helped people in 'Strategy', asked people in 'Questions', looked for discussion in GD and flamed and baited someone in Off-Topics. I'm just your average forum poster that has never complained about this website, but I like the extreme simpleness of it.

And now they choose to get rid of the simpleness...

All I want to know is: Who is able to make changes happen here? I know mods have a vote, but it's a very small one, so I'm not looking for mods. Who has contact with bigWham? Who can tell him that all the great things he has done will be overshadowed by this big mistake?
I haven't got his phone number or his Skype-account, otherwise I'd have done it. If you are the one who can do this, please do this. And know that all of the above messages are only the people using the forums. We have thousands of users in confusion who say nothing, but think the same thing... and you know it!

not a fan. would be good for casual user. is annoying for constant user. changes to site would only be to benefit casual user and make them constant user, so i'll roll with it. but yea, it kinna sucks. looks cool but

WE ARE NERDS THAT LIKE NUMBERS

WE LIKE TO SEE THINGS IN A LIST

maybe get rid of the double side i really don't want to have to look right to see something that should really be put in an up down list.
