You can't vote "yes"... the nearest thing is "um...ya".

According to the U.S. judicial branch and the jury, it didn't even make him a killer.

Correct. Oooh, heavycola, you racist.

Nothing, I think. I thought posting on pointlessly stupid threads was the point of this forum.

Ok I live in Wales have done for half my life I go to an English school and feel that I am English. I have nothing against the welsh what so ever apart from there attitude towards the english. :P but it is mostly done in good humour lol. I do think people should be careful about interchanging England and UK because they are not the same thing at all.

ENGLAND IS NOT OVER-RATED

(very biased opinion)

No it wasn't a trick question. I'm probably just getting old. I probably know nothing of how 14-year-olds from Wales or anywhere in the UK talk. I am now depressed.

EDIT: You don't really say "um...ya", do you, even in sarcasm? What's the world coming to?

Iliad wrote:I know Wales, cause I read a book about Robin Hood set in Wales: the author researched Robin hood and thought that he might have been Anglicized, but was actually Welsh. Also it had heaps of information about Wales.

The reason it took England nearly 300 years was because Wales had the longbow, which was very dangerous at the time, and because they used their abundant forest to fight a guerrilla war. But apart from that I don't know much about Wales. It just kinda gets overshadowed.

if it took us 300 years to work out that the big bendy hurty welsh things were longbows we deserved to get our arses kicked

Errm... Original poster was not 100% correct. Forgive me for a little (semi) professional scorn, but a book about Robin Hood is not exactly the best place to start on medieval Wales...

But you are essentially correct. The guerilla warfare was certainly an issue, not just because of the terrain but also because of the makeup of Welsh forces, which was usually based around smaller clan/tribal type groups rather than feudal armies. As for weapons, the medieval Welsh actually primarily used both javelins and shorter bows, made of elm not yew, because they were more effective and powerful at short range. The bows were, however, pretty shitty in open battle, and Welsh forces nearly always suffered heavy defeats when fighting out of cover. The Welsh Longbow was a brilliant weapon, and contributed to many astounding victories, but it was made for long-range accuracy rather than short range armour-piercing power.

Ultimately, however, the reason Wales held out for so long is perhaps an indication that the Norman lords did not see it as a prize worth ploughing everything into. It was certainly a thorn in the side of the English, but not too important in the scale of things.

He was found liable for the murder by a civil court. Anyway he was guiltier than a puppy sitting next to a pile of poo.

Tsk, why resurrect this thread? I have enough embarrassing drunken comments to live down, without being reminded of them in this way.

Dammit. It definitely used to work. Here's a photo gallery of him and his associates instead - use that for what you will, but for God's sake don't look straight into his eyes. (Or indeed, listen to any of his music.)

Totally agree. Every world cup that comes along it's all about how England are going to win it when they don't really have much of a chance. They've been humbled that many times (Northern Ireland 1 England 0 :D )) that I can't believe they still have faith. Tennis is the same - no chance of winning any of the majors but the English hope all the way anyway.

Wales didn't exist before 1535 (ish, can't remember exactly) & the act of union. It was a collection of smaller countries; Gwynedd, Powys, Clwyd, Ceredigion, Dyfed, ... can't remember what the other two were all called off the top of my head but they were where Brecknockshire & Glamorgan are currently.

Welsh history's amazingly interesting, well worth reading up on - especially the stuff before 1535.

England's not overrated (football excluded), it's a grand country and I'm proud to be English. I've also lived in Scotland & Wales - both for several years. Wales is a brilliant country, love it to bits and am very pleased that I live there (sort of, I'm working/living in Liverpool at the moment but my 'permanent' residence is in Powys). Also very fond of Scotland, still have loads of friends up there so I visit on a regular basis.

England as a country (bar sport) is fine. But some English are stuck up their own arseholes a bit, if you get my message, and give the country a bad name, even though the vast majority are wonderful people (all my English friends are anyway).

However, who am I to criticise the English when the take the piss out of Americans thread is just down the forum a bit!
