has there ever in the past been an issue where someone got angry over the copyright?

There have been plenty of maps that weren't implemented because of copyright issues.

Besides, I PREFER the idea of renaming the territories to "conquer club-esque" names anyway. It would make the map much more original and more fun to play I think.

Of course, if I thought that the map I was creating might never be used, I'd probably want to establish that before I hours learning to code the thing.

The Monopoly game play itself is public domain. Many companies other than Parker Brothers have produced Monopoly variants, so coming up with a monopoly variant shouldn't be an issue. What may raise concerns is lifting the artwork right off of somebody else's board.

It is his responsibility since he wants to create the map. The CC admins understand their legal position just fine- If there is no consent to use a copyrighted image they won't post the map on the site (that is an example of CC rejecting the "new feature").

Also Otto, you would not be offering legal advice to the CC admins- you would simply be checking if what you are doing is legal. If you cannot explicitly find a statement saying that the image may be used for this purpose, then you could contact a member of Parker Bro's and find out directly. That is not legal advice, it is simple research.

Regarding what sully said about changing it and making it more CC-esque...I think that perhaps should be something to look into...and you could change the images or create a totally unique 'monopoly' inspired board that is CC-esque...

Try having some areas be different forums, have the map foundry, general discussion, and another forum as one color, maybe have a few maps as a dfferent color and youcan make a CC monopoly board

Instead of chance, roll dice, instead of community chest, club forum, the different continents would represent different maps in the game, with key features as countries. Itstead of go to jail, deatbeater or convicted as multi, instead of jail, ignore list (or grievance, whatever we're doing..haha) istead of Go, advance to premium membership, or cash in a set. That sort of thing. If anyone has any input on what would be good things to do for the utilities or free parking, that'd rock, or if you have any ideas better than my own, lay them on me. See ya all late tomorrow

These were the ideas submitted in June on this very thread. I think they are much better than keeping the standard monopoly board. Let your creativity roam free! or take all of bananastomper's suggestions...
