I'm going to have to agree that if you don't even know what country is being discussed, it's a bit ludicrous for you to say you know anything about its governmental structure.

I'm going to have to agree you're an ass and can go take a long walk off a short peir.
He already said which country it is, which is why he didn't answer the question.

They were the dictatorship of the proletariat. Not some gaggle of professional congressmen and presidents of mega-corporations as in the west.

German Democratic Republic, (Deutsche Demokratische Republik, abbreviated DDR in German-speaking countries) is the proper name of the former country of East Germany
How hard would it have been to actually answer the question?
So... the country that had to build walls to keep its' population. This is the country you put forth as being the Worker's Paradise?
Obviously many people hinding under cars and in trucks at Checkpoint Charlie disagree.

"The ruling Communist party, known as the "Socialist Unity Party" (SED), was formed in April 1946 out of the forced merger between the German Communist Party (KPD) and the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD). As Walter Ulbricht noted, everything was made to look democratic while in reality Communists retained control in the background. They were totally loyal to Stalin, and realized their regime would collapse if it lost the backing of the Soviet army—as indeed happened in 1989. Historians debate whether the decision to form a separate country was initiated by Stalin or by the SED.[5]
As West Germany was reorganized and gained independence from the occupation, Stalin established the German Democratic Republic in 1949. The creation of the two states made permanent the 1945 division of Germany.[6]
In 1949 the Soviets turned control of East Germany over to the Communist Party, headed by Wilhelm Pieck (1876–1960), who remained in power until his death in 1960. The old Socialist Party was taken over by the Communists, and Socialist leader Otto Grotewohl (1894–1964) became prime minister.
West Germany saw itself as the legal successor to the Third Reich, shouldering the burdens of legal responsibility for its crimes, East Germany renounced ties to the Nazi past, styling itself the "anti-fascist rampart" and proclaiming itself the first socialist state on German soil. It refused to admit the existence of anti-semitism and refused to recognize Israel or reimburse victims of the Holocaust."
This sounds a lot like the worker's paradise Saxi.
Not.

East Germary was not the experiment in socialism you pretend. That said... even if it was, don't you think it is obvious the experiment failed.
"On June 16, 1953, workers constructing the new Stalinallee boulevard in East Berlin rioted against a ten percent production quota increase. Initially a labour protest, it soon included the general populace, who added their anti-Soviet discontent to the workers’ civil disobedience, and on June 17 like protests occurred throughout the GDR, involving more than a million people striking in some 700 cities and towns. Fearing anti-communist counter-revolution on June 18, 1953, the government of the GDR enlisted the Soviet Occupation Forces to aid the Volkspolizei (“People’s Police”) in suppressing the rioters; some fifty people were killed and some 10,000 were jailed."
Sounds like the State forcing its' adgenda on the people.

I'm not sure which specific part of your Wikipedia cut-and-paste job with which you take umbrage. Did you read it? If so, could you highlight which part horrifies you? Was it the last paragraph?

Uh oh, gang. Jim discovered Wikipedia. The cut-and-paste jobs are going to be coming fast 'n furious now! (At least he figured out which country he's discussing - thanks Mets.)

Yay! I can selectively cut-and-paste episodic historic incidents to jump to conclusions about entire countries, too! Fun!

The Kent State shootings – also known as the May 4 massacre or Kent State massacre – occurred at Kent State University in the city of Kent, Ohio, and involved the shooting of unarmed college students by members of the Ohio National Guard on Monday, May 4, 1970. The guardsmen fired 67 rounds over a period of 13 seconds, killing four students and wounding nine others, one of whom suffered permanent paralysis.

Arthur McDuffie (c. 1946 - 1979), an African American, whose death at the hands of 5 European American Miami-Dade police officers, and the officers' subsequent acquittals, caused one of many race riots in the United States. Twenty-one people died and more than 400 were injured after days of protests in which thousands of National Guard troops had to be deployed to suppress dissent.

Your term "country" is a misnomer.
We really never considered East Germany to be a real country... just a part of Germany that was being illegally occupied and controlled by the USSR.
It was inevitable that the USSR wouldn't be able to maintain that control.

How do these points refute anything I have said in this thread?
You're changing the subject and not addressing the issue.
jimboston wrote:Interesting reading in Wiki... some new specifics, but the general tone is pretty standard and typical of a Communist State.
You do realize that simply declaring you are a “republic of workers and peasants” doesn't make it so...
This was the perfect way to end the thread, Jim! After getting poked and teased and batted-around you became unhinged, yelled "Go f*ck Yourself!" 5 times and then started cutting and pasting pages upon pages out of wikipedia in some cases - apparently - not even reading what you were pasting before copying it in.
You're a master of forensic speech, Jim. However, I think it's time for you to participate in a Family Guy or Simpsons thread, now, though. The grown-ups would like to have a chit-chat. Thanks!

The DDR received diplomatic recognition by the USA in 1974 (and, in turn, recognized the existence of the USA that year).
Jim, I really feel sorry for you. Honestly, I really do. Wikipedia and the American educational system has really let you down as has been patently obvious in this thread as you stumble through a history of the 20th century, backtracking and reformatting your points to accommodate the new historic gems and anecdotes you keep learning along the way, periodically becoming flustered and just throwing up your hands in the air, screaming "Go f*ck Yourself!" and then cutting-and-pasting 23 pages out of wikipedia.
Really, this is embarrassing for you, Jim. Please save your own face.
