Perhaps bring the other cities down to 3 or 2 as well, since as it is they make it difficult for anyone to gain a bonus and the first person to dig into the neutrals is at a disadvantage holding their new bonus.

One quick question ... why is the District Bonus for Famagusta only +2 shouldn't it be +4 or +5 at that many territories?

I think +2 is good for it, it is very isolated and only has 3 borders - and one of the borders only borders a killer neutral.

Coupled with the fact that it's easy to combine with Kyrenia to get +4 with 3 borders...

There has been a great improvement since I last poked my head in here. Looking great, so let's get this kicked on over to graphics ;)

HI guys, this is looking swell...sorry i haven't been into look, but RL has been hectic.
I have been asked to comment from the Surveyors, so here goes...and simply tell me if this has already been covered...
Do you think the map would benefit from a sea-city route (like the British on the southern side) on the northern side; say from Yalousa to Laphitos...even though the northern regions are non-neutral?
Other things i have are graphic, so i'll wait 'til then. :)

:-k i thought about this possibility (and honestly i don't dislike it), it should open a bit more the game on the turkish side. But for now, since the gameplay looks solid, i prefer to leave it as it is now and keep this possibility as a possibile improvement for the Beta stage if people will find hard move around on that side.

I'm already working on graphics (an update will be posted as soon as the map will receive the gameplay stamp)...please post your thoughts if you want ;)

Seems like a nice little map. I like this size of map for 1v1 play.

I think the mountains could use a little TLC - right now they don't fit in graphically.

Might try some different fonts for the the territory names. Something closer to the title font.

Time to move this on.

(By the way, feel free to add a sea connection in the North at any time, if you think it's appropriate).

Congrats for the GP stamp nobodies!

Now that we're in GFX here's a few points - these are all just my opinion so if you disagree that's fine... hope you'll find something useful here though:

- the outline of the land looks blurry. I think a sharper + darker outline would fit the style of the map better.

- the mountains look pixelated and... well, they kinda stick out, I'd like to see them blend in with the map more.

- you could experiment with the territory font a bit... I'd like to see a similar font as you have in the title used for the territory names. You know, to give the map a bit of flavour.

- What's the weird stain between Peyia & Paphos? I'd guess it's an artifact from the grunge texture you're using. If you need a cleaner texture just let me know, I have tons of good textures ;)

- idea for the british flags: how about making them look like small flag-pins pinned on the map?

That's all I have for now... good job & looking forward to playing this :)

I noticed the district bonuses correspond to territory names within those bonuses. You may want to put those territory names in bold, like on Macedonia, so it's clear to the player which district gets which bonus.

Cyprus v4.0

Version 4.0

[bigimg]http://www.fileden.com/files/2009/3/21/2373685/Cyprus/Cypro%204.0.png[/bigimg]

I'm still working on some things, but in the meantime i'd like to hear some suggestions about the fonts...do you like them? Is text readeable?

Well some of the names are a bit hard to read... Rizokarpaso (?) Limassol and Chakistra to name a few.

I still think a font more like the title font would work for the territories.

Typo in the British bases legend: should read "attack each other" not "attach each others".

Now text is all with the same font used for the title. Typo fixed.
Now I'm doing some random test, i prefer the version 4.1 or 4.2 (second option), but i'd like to hear some other thoughts

Version 4.1
[bigimg]http://www.fileden.com/files/2009/3/21/2373685/Cyprus/Cypro%204.1.png[/bigimg]

Version 4.2
[bigimg]http://www.fileden.com/files/2009/3/21/2373685/Cyprus/Cypro%204.2.png[/bigimg]

Version 4.3
[bigimg]http://www.fileden.com/files/2009/3/21/2373685/Cyprus/Cypro%204.3.png[/bigimg]

Version 4.4

Looking real good thenobodies80.
4.2, but I would like to see it with different combination of colors. Like dark and light blue. Or even better might be, match the border to the color of the title. :D

Also the rivers need to be lightened so as to blend with the ocean.

thanks porkenbeans, i'll try a frame with title colors.
Rivers? i think you mean the UN Buffer zone, essentially it's a neutral zone controlled by UN that divides the island in two parts.
Although rarely mentioned, we still have a "wall" in Europe --> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Nat ... _in_Cyprus

I like 4.4 the best. It sets the legends visually apart from the map and thus gives a bigger focus to the playing area. It has the most balanced composition.

Cyprus - which version?

Post by thenobodies80 »

I tested the colors used for the title, as suggested by porkenbeans. It looks much better so i replaced the previous images with those below

Version 4.5
