Re: BOB 5.0.4 Where do snapshots go?

Post by Angus Khan »

I've noticed a problem with snapshots. I can quit CC by closing my browser and come back, all the snaps are there. But when I reboot my computer, all the snaps are gone. Is there some place on my hard drive where they are supposed to go, or where I can MAKE them go so this doesn't happen?

Sherk, you've been doing a great job on this thing and I don't want to be a pest. The new website changes threw a big monkey wrench into the code I'm sure, and I'm sorry it got dumped on your lap like that. Lack should have BOB or equivalent built in to the software in my opinion, but doubt he has the coding chops to pull it off (what I've seen so far, especially not-well-thought out upgrades doesn't give me great confidence).

You have a very strange view of things. But first, I'll answer your question. BOB uses the standard greasemonkey-save method (if you're on firefox), which saves the snapshot in the firefox config (go to about:config in FF, and search for 'conquerClub' to find some values). It happened for a few people that closing Firefox improperly (by a direct reset) resulted in an old FF-config to be restored somehow. I don't know the mechanism, I'm not an expert. The file FF saves those settings in is prefs.js, somewhere in your firefox profile directory.

And I actually was a big supporter of some of the last changes, it makes some things a lot faster and a bit easier. You could even say that I originally came up with the idea behind the 'improved army printing'. The biggest problem is actually the size of BOB (4000 lines at the moment) and the amount of options in it, which makes it hard to check for every problem that could occur. But that change made it easier again in the long run.

Ok, it seems to be working better lately (It remembers the options I set for it) but do you know when we can expect a fix for it automatically updating itself as you move?

Why does BOB's Map Inspect show Union ships as safe territories when they can be attacked by Maryland? (That's a one-way attack.) Quick example: Game 7346768

Yes, it does. Go to Game 7346768 and hover your mouse over the red player. USS Montauk is highlighted with a safe square, even though orange holds Maryland. Hovering over the territories does highlight with the proper one-way attack icons.

Hi, I have been a grateful user of Bob for a few years now and have become quite reliant on it. I just had a hard drive crash and had to start from scratch, reinstall firefox, greasemonkey and Bob scripts. Now when I open a game it seems to hang on "Parsing XML". Any suggestions as to what I need to do to get it working again?

Thanks.

Any idea where you got the link? This happens when you install Yeti's version, which is outdated. If reinstall from the link in the opening post, it should work.

I think it's the map, every possible combination of 4's is a continent under the hood(with some combinations subtracting points), and BOB just show the continents.

Yes, indeed it was a link to an old version. The link in this OP seems to work great - thanks. I know I pulled the old link off of some thread here, not sure which one.

It was working a few updates ago.

Every continent shows the first line of the map now.

When lack added the invitations tab and as it jumps back to the Active Games tab, the link does not show the play clock like it normally does. The redirect link is

Code: Select all

http://www.conquerclub.com/player.php?submit=Accept&game=

with the game number after the final = sign.

Yes, I see what you mean. I'll look into it.

Ah, thanks for noticing. I'll fix this.

Hmm, the mentioned 2 problems above have been fixed (last one at the cost of displaying the number of a continent when hovering over it).

Odd behavior I only noticed since the last update, but can't say for sure it wasn't there before...

in Game 7408086 I beat korda1 and gained 14 points. if you load the game, BOB's Elimination Summary will initially get it right.

Elimination Summary
2010-08-02 22:31:32 - scottp eliminated korda1 from the game in round - 8
2010-08-02 22:31:32 - korda1 lost 14 points in round - 8
2010-08-02 22:31:32 - scottp gained 14 points in round - 8
Points Totals
scottp scored 14 points in this game
korda1 scored -14 points in this game

However, if you click "Load entire log" the summary will become:
Elimination Summary
2010-08-02 22:31:32 - korda1 lost 14 points in round - 7
2010-08-02 22:31:32 - scottp gained 14 points in round - 7
2010-08-02 22:31:32 - scottp eliminated korda1 from the game in round - 11
2010-08-02 22:31:32 - korda1 lost 14 points in round - 11
2010-08-02 22:31:32 - scottp gained 14 points in round - 11
Points Totals
scottp scored 28 points in this game
korda1 scored -28 points in this game

I would assume this is true for games other than just this one?!

BTW, thanks for all the work you put into BOB. I hate even bringing something like this up for fear of sounding like a complainer. Truly just trying to be a fraction as helpful as I am grateful. Kudos!!

I've noticed the exact same thing for a while when I have to load the entire log to check tournament standings.

I noticed another bug, it could be a temporal one since I try to replicate it and now seems to be working back.

When you roll over a region and it doesnt have any attack connection to an opposite player, it always show some kind of square around your troops, but somehow that feature is was not working for me on a foggy Arms Race game.

I didnt took a screenshot, but on my next game I will try to duplicate the bug and take a screenshot and post it here.

Also, are you still trying to incorporate the feature of moving screenshots from one computer to another? It will be awesome to have it in the future. And maybe also and Auto-Screenshot feature at the end of your turn on foggy games?

Thanks.

Arms Race one is probably cos it can be attacked by the missile (and/or Spy) - and you can't tell who can attack you.

How do you forget about the missile in arms race? It's a damn missile...!

Anyway, looks like Bob's back to working at top shape, so I appreciate all the fixes you did Sherk. I'm still having some trouble with snapshots, but thats just probably because I'm new to using it. However I do agree with the suggestion about perhaps using snapshots automatically at the end of a turn. It would be an awesome enhancement
