impossible on the bigger maps. in an esc world 2.1 game and you cash for 60 and try and wipe the board...................... very hard to do in only 2 min. esp when it gets down to 1v1.

However, this option would be great on the smaller maps. Might as well make it 1 min or 30 sec.

If that's your preference wouldn't it be better if they made the "start game" button into a "roll to randomly decide the winner" instead. ;)

Calculated Speed

Only way I could see this implemented is if you calculate the number of territories the map has and make some kind of calculation from that.

For example:
the doodle earth map has 18 territories,
the classic shapes 42 territories, and
world 2.1 has 113 territories.

The classic shapes has the right amount of territories for a 5 min speed round. Doodle could be faster and World 2.1 could use some more time.

That makes me think that maybe it would be good to have an option to calculate speed round time on the number of territories * 0.1

That would give in each above case:
Doodle earth: 1.8 min >> 2 min
Classic shapes: 4.2 min >> 4 min
World 2.1: 11.3 min >> 11 min

On top of this I would like to see a restriction though.
If on a map like World 2.1 the person in turn has not started his turn within 5 min the turn should be lost.
Because if someone deadbeats or misses a round, everybody else should not have to wait forever.

I think 5 minute rounds are too long for 90% of the turns on speed games. For the other 10%, they're too short.

What if we made the rounds 2 minutes, but there was a once-per-game or twice-per-game extension of 5 minutes or something? Kinda like a time bank. You use it when you are about to run out of time, but you're wiping the board.

How about - players get 2 minutes to start their turn (still 5 mins altogether - in the case of big maps)?

How about 2 min turns, and every player gets one 3 minute 'extension' to be used at his/her discretion. When it come to a crucial part of the game where you feel you can win with a little extra time, you click the button and poof, extra time. Be careful with it, once you use it, it is gone!!

speed game should be 5 sec times the number of territories on the map..doodle would be about 1.5 mins, classic about 4 mins, and world 2.1 im guessing 10 mins i havent counted

how about you just stick to 2 minutes. if you can't wipe the board in that time... oh well. fortfify and move on.

An option for two (or three, either works for me) minute speed games would be great.

Different time options for quick play

I would like to suggest that a user can set different amount of times between turns.

For example, 1 hour or 30 minutes.

This will enable much greater use of the games as I could set 3 hours and play before work, at my breaks, after work etc.

This 2 min stuff don't work on big maps. And even on medium and smaller maps without clickable maps, it's going to be very hard to have the time.

I think the hybrid solution suggested earlier in this thread is the only way to work it.

2 minute turns, with a 10 minute extra time bank that can be used once the 2 minutes run out, but only if the player is active, and not in the case of a missed turn.

i prefer the 24 hour or speed. cause i sometimes tend to join games hastely, alot of people would miss there turns and deadbeat as a result i think.

this is getting kinda ridiculas. timebanks and different times for different maps. is anyone THAT inconvienienced by sometimes waiting 5 minutes for people to take their turns?

yes!!! I have been in games where I think - ok, I'll spend half an hour or an hour on this game before I head off to bed or out or whatever, and 1 person always wait until the last few seconds to make their move.

So instead of making a move a minute and getting done, everybody has to wait. So it drags out into eternity, and is especially boring if it is a 1 on 1 speed game. You don't want to just quit and give away the points either, although I have done that a few times because I couldnt stand to wait another 30 min to make the last 6 moves.

This is usually because that person is playing several speed games at once.

Speed games are supposed to be FAST, not a boring wait.

What are the flaws in the time bank idea? Seems pretty straight forward to me. As mentioned earlier in this thread, most turns, 5 minutes is way more than necessary. It's only a couple of turns a game max where you could use extra time.

Also, if the turns were limited to where you had to start them within 2 minutes, people wouldn't play 10 speed games at once, which is the root cause of the delays that paulk is talking about.
