That is your opinion and i will respect your opinion, however if you are going to be rude like that then at least an expantion into why it has no potential would be appreciated.

Awesome, can't wait to see this. Did you get your planet ideas from the new books? They have a map right at the first of the newer novels.
Thoughts on a Star Trek one as well?

What if there were a negative ( per EACH Continent Held ) put onto holding that square... That way when game is initialized there is no penalty so no one is at a disadvantage.... and the 1st to get a continent will have a harder time holding the warp gate ( Square )....Or you could add more squares...put up a POLL

The only reasons said over the last 2 pages were aestetics and its symetrical nature.
The symetrical part i am thinking about altering with something like a carpark and entry area.
The aestetics part has been covered by me several times so if ure giving that as your reason then i suggest glasses.

Do you have a book about Star Wars planets? I know I've got a book somewhere with tons of info about lots of planets.

George Lucas has a history of being really open with this copy right, and he pretty much makes all the decisions. He probably won't even care that this site is moderately commercial judging from his past actions. This is definitely worth pursuing.
EDIT: Hell, he might even join the site after you ask. He's a pretty cool guy, seriously.
How are we gonna ask?

just a little preview of what ive been working on...
this one will be using the new XML code that lack has said he is finishing up...
-starting neutral territories...
-territorial bonus...
-ranged attacks...
the plan for this is completely different than anything else on the site...so if you feel like doing some reading lemme know what you think...
their will be 6 starting pirate ships, these are the only starting player territories...the rest of the map will start neutral. the ships get a auto territory bonus of +2 that is applied directly to the ship...borders with ships/land are one way to the land...
as the pirates move off the ship they can collect normal 'continent' bonuses....
In the center of the map is a fortress with a cannon pointed at each ship. Players who make it to the cannon can use it to range attack another players ship, thereby making their ship neutral and taking away the bonus.
because the cannon is the only way to hit the ship, its the only way you can fully eliminate a player...but even if you knock out their ship you still have to eliminate them from the island....and lack has said that ranged attacks will leave a neutral when you defeat an army...so you cant take another players ship, you can just 'sink' it.
3 player games = 2 ships each...4,5,6 players = 1 ship each (the others just go neutral automatically)
opinions...?

come on not another map that's given to us in portions. why don't you guys just take your time, finish the map and then present a draft.
other than that the idea sounds good.
PS: don't tell me you did the title and the bridges but no land. it's clear it's there but you've just hidden it. so please be a sport and present the whole map.

'mibi' and do it in segments...i just wanted to throw the idea out there and see what people thought about the gameplay...or had any suggestions as im working on it...

could you do it so the pirates ships rotate around the island so every go you attack somewhere different, you could do this using the seasonal xml idea.
also could there be some treasure that is hidden and moves around the island in every different game, that would give you a bonus of troops.
i need to get ready for school now, but im sure i will think of a few more ideas at some point.

I like this idea, it could lead to a fun style of game play. I like the fact that you're trying to utilise the new xml changes.
But, if you've made the whole map then show the whole map. Drip feeding it to the foundry just slows things up.

Sounds good johloh, I've been longing for a Pirate map for quite some time but never had the time to pursue it myself. Judging by the slight tease of imagery we have, the design looks like it's going to be a refreshing change. Gameplay sounds good too, I can't wait to see how this one pans out.

Yes...good idea...of course it is very topical with the release of Pirates of the Carribean...could be very popular...of course i was thinking along these lines myself last night and envisaged a Treasure Island sort of map....so go for it and GL!

Johloh - love the idea... but here's a query...
How will it work for non 6 player games?
Here's the answer...
6 ships... 6 players... 6 territories... one ship per player.
6 ships 5 players 6 territories one ship per player (one neutral ship.)
6 ships 4 players 6 territories one ship per player (two neutral ships.)
6 ships 3 players 6 territories two ships per player.
Thus it will work... (Although it does rely on you making every other territory neutral!!!)
Now post up the whole map and lets get this quenched!!!!
Also another thing - you will have to make sure everyones path to the cannon is equal - else it will favour some of the ships...
Unless you have 2 cannons... one for 3 ships - one for another 3 ships... of course holding the cannon pointed at your ship is just as important as holding the cannon pointing at everyone else?!
C.
EDIT :
3 player games = 2 ships each...4,5,6 players = 1 ship each (the others just go neutral automatically)
Doh didn't read the last sentence of your post - I got too excited!!

Really bad graphics.
Oh and Spockers just doesn't like new maps.
This map needs a lot of work but it has its potential

No, Iliad. I'm all for new maps.
I just expect a little more effort than what is generally produced with first-up efforts.
Anyone who produces a first-up effort in paint might as well not even bother.

Sounds extremely interesting. However, I'm worried there might be a few too many neutral territories. We shall see.
