I got the joke, but your joke didn't fit the situation.

Which is exactly what I did to fishy's post too - changed the entire meaning. That's why I reckoned you didn't get it.

My very contrived joke was that yours didn't really change the meaning. This comedy stuff is too time consuming, I'm going back to puns.

When included in a sentence however, without pause, it implies he has been holding it out on her (exposing himself). Perhaps the phrase "to hold out on someone" is new to you. Anyway, enough. I have to go.

I am familiar with the phrase "to hold out on someone", and there is no way to make it mean "to expose yourself" with good, grammatical English. Otherwise you could make anything work, which would take away the fun of the joke. It would be chaos.

Yeah, I have to agree with Nimic here, I can see what CoF was trying to say (after he elaborated), but that wasn't really conveyed from manipulation of the comma.

Hmmm. I as a non-native English speaker got the joke instantly, but I also didn't see the incorrect grammatical English there, but does it really matter when it's about a joke? Anyway, I got to agree with CoF here. Enough. It isn't worth it to reply to this discussion anymore.
