Okay heres the gist of the situation.

Im telling you all first, straight up on my opinions: gay Marriage is wrong wrong wrong in every sense of the word, and yes, laws should exist to stop it.
Wait, if only for a second, to start your cries of "bigot!" and "Gay-hater!" just to hear me out.
America, wether you like it or not, was founded on Christian religious beliefs. In order for a country to run properly, there must be some morals in place, where better for those morals to come from then the religion the country was based on.
Heres the issue. When we say the government should not have the control to tell you what sexual practices you can practice, we are saying that the government can not legalize morality.
I think everyone would agree this is an issue of morality?

When we take away the government's ability to legalize morality, everything will eventually fall apart. A country without morals will just collapse.

I beg you to take this in with an open mind, I have done my best to write my thoughts out intelligently. I pray that you are not too scared off by the fact that yes, I am a Christian, to not see my point.

bolded is the part that i feel is probably the most erroneous assumption in a post of assumptions i disagree with. Now its not that theres anything in general i have a problem with considering Christian morality, it seems rather questionable to assume that theres no possiblity for a better system to be created if one already hasnt.

Also i find it somewhat ironic that you make a post about the gov. taking away rights to own guns but then at the same time seem to be advocating that the government should be legislating morality. That is slightly inconsistent.

i tell you what, i went back and read through this again due to insomnia and this thread really delivers.

Some highlights....pretty much the entire post count of the OP can be found in this thread, and im pretty sure he disappears midway through.

Autoload discloses he is against all marriage early on in the thread for my winner of most valuable post award.

Norse holds the thread up for the first ten or so pages in an honorable effort to disagree with everyone about everything.

Howeva! this thread seems to be a coming out party for nappy as he almost singlehandedly carries on a thread for like 30 pages and seemingly takes a bit of a beating from a staunchly pro-marriage posting crowd while the vote is consistently anti-gay marriage.

I killed this thread on page 53 for probably my only large thread kill in my history here at CC.

Dancing mustard also puts on quite a show.

No it wasn't. This has been claimed several times already and it has been repeatedly disproved. The greater part of your founding fathers were deists and theists no specifically christians. Secondly, don't you even have a part in the constitution that says the state may not favour one religion over an other, may not favour all other religions over one, nor may it favour all religions equally? That hardly sounds like a country founded on religious values. Thirdly, if you're going to drag out the pledge and point out that it says "under god", that part was introduced in the mid 20th century, pretty recently.

Given what I just said this has already been sufficiently argued against, but still, you're essentially saying that it's ok to have laws that tell women what to wear, tell people what they may eat and drink and what they may not, to regulate every last thing in their lives as long as the laws are derived from the religion the country was founded on. Oh yes, let's do that, then we'd have countries where it's ok to kill children for being cheeky, or where you can be stoned (you know, have stones thrown at you until you die) for things like adultery, GREAT step forward.

sexual practices are for the people who practice them, not for the government, it's not the governments task to enforce arbitrary ideas about how people should behave in private and who they're supposed to be happily married to. Governments and states exist to provide a framework within which humans can live together as a society without having to worry about having ones head bashed in by someone else.

No, sexual preferences is not an issue of morality. What you mean by morality here are the arbitrary standards you have learned to accept and which you believe to be absolute. Sex is a private act that takes place between two or more people, as long as it's consensual more or less anything goes. Sexual preferences are not something you can legislate, you cannot tell men that they have to be attracted to women and vice versa any more than you can forbid men and women from having sex with each other, both positions are equally impossible. Sexual preferences towards men or women are most likely heavily influenced by ones genes, how can you tell a person to act against his own genes?

In addition to what I wrote above about making laws of morals: Morals and sensible laws coincide at times, but I think you're confusing the cause with the effect, because it makes sense for a society if people in it don't kill each other it becomes a law, because it's an important law it becomes a moral tenet of the society as well that reinforces the law. I think your parents told you not to kill and steal, that's because a society where everyone might kill an other person at a whim or a society consisting entirely of people trying to steal what they need from each other cannot exist. Which is why those two particular things became moral tenets and get passed on quite effectively between generations. Your parents probably didn't tell you that you have to pay your taxes, well, a society without taxes is possible, but you don't live in one and the one in which you live needs your taxes, which is why it's a law. At least here it is, I hear there's some dispute about it in the USA, and you still pay them.

its a shame too because as sex warped as we are in american society i cannot believe people still believe homosexual intercourse is the most disgusting thing that could be. I would imagine there are number of different sexual practices alone that hetero couples practice that would be just as disgusting if not more to the average anti-gay opiner.

agreed. and besides, there have been a bunch of girls that begged me to give them anal. i've never been with a guy, but it's not that gross compared to other things. i do have to admit, two guys doing it does kinda gross me out. same with the thought of receiving it.

but it's not the most disgusting thing in the world. certainly not even as gross as a golden shower.

Is he? Whilst I'm not going to pretend that this serves as an argument against gay marriage in any way, and his equation may not be entirely correctly formulated, isn't the basic fact that we can thank the gay population for AIDS true?

I think it would be more accurate to say:

less sex of any kind = less AIDs

So I don't see it as an argument against gay marriage as much as for abstinence.

Furthermore, the term gay "marriage" implies sexual relations with only one partner, which would actually REDUCE the spread of AIDS.
