I think this would be a very interesting map because it's only one I've seen so far that has no continents or additional territory bonuses, but has auto-deploy. It's kinda like somewhere between Circus Maximus (although I've never played on it before) and the other maps.

there's no autodeploy...

This map is looking awesome. I think that people will still go after the objective, even with 10 per territ--here's why:

If people are just battling it out in the fertile regions, the best way to gain an advantage is to go for the bonuses--the oases. So the battle will become a simultaneous race to grab as many oases as possible. Very soon, at least one person will be grabbing fairly large bonuses, and will have armies no more than two territs away from the center. Why wouldn't they go for the win which requires taking 3 adjacent territories, rather than taking dozens, that will fight back?

I don't know if someone said this before because I did not read all the 34 ( ) pages on the topic, but the oasis is often only 4 territories away from the fertile land. Taking some game options into account, like escalating card bonuses, it seems to me it wouldn't be all that hard to make a bash for the big oasis in one go from a big stack in the fertile land. So I do agree that there should be at least 10 neutrals in each big oasis space.

But you still have to hold the entire thing for a whole round. If it's escalating, and someone else has a set, you're screwed. I don't think the number of neutrals really matters in this case because of that. You wouldn't risk your guys to take the oasis if you can't hold it.

Of course, we do need to be realistic here. There are way more bad players out there, and probably many of them will try to take the Grand Oasis with no realistic hope of keeping it for a turn. Which will then make the difficulty of taking the Grand Oasis variable, and probably more likely in a game with many low-rankers.

That's not to say of course that in a high-ranking game it will be impossible to take that route, but probably more difficult. But then, this map isn't intended to have the objective be the only path to victory, as wcaclimbing has often said. I've personally come to the conclusion that anything over 10 is too much, but anything below 10 will be acceptable in terms of balanced gameplay. The only difference it will make is the amount of care you'll have to take when going for the objective, and how often it will be in play. Which is why I still advocate a 6 on the Grand Oasis.

But honestly, I see it working even with 1s and 2s.

actually you can take down the poll yourself now, just by erasing all the text and options and such so that everything under the poll is blank, but sadly tho, it then messes up your next poll

edit:

HAHA fast posted kap  :P

Im pretty sure you can just edit the first post, click "poll creation" at the bottom, and remove it by deleting the text ... :?
But maybe that's only for threads made after the switch to phpBB3?

more than 9
other.

anyone disagree with those choices?
I'll put the new poll up later today if no one disagrees.

Looks like 6 armies is winning by a lot.

I've got a new Oasis sig. Its definitely not as good as it could be, but its ok for right now.

I'll have a big update by Tuesday Midnight (which is 5am GMT time). Lots of stuff fixed.
I promise.

Look guys! Its a new update!

Lots of small changes, so I'll try to keep track of them below the pic.
EDIT: image updated again, cause I forgot desert 81 this time around  (thanks TaCktiX for pointing that out)
[bigimg]http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r315/wcaclimbing/UV85.png[/bigimg]

Stuff done:
---Desert 67 and 68 now touch.
---Re-numbered the entire desert, because I somehow managed to leave off Desert 19.
---Graphics touchups all over. Everything that was suggested was fixed (I hope).
---A few border bent slightly (on small territories mostly) to better fit army numbers
---Moved a few territory names slightly, also for army numbers.
---Oasis of Honor is changed to Oasis of Glory, to avoid the controversial spelling of "honor".
---Fixed all readability issues with the grass/plant dot things behind territory names.
---and its got the new banner up top.

---I might have to mess with the banner a bit, the ends are looking too orange for me to like.

XML is almost finished. I think zimmah just needs to update the army coordinates, and then he will be able to post it and provide an image with 888 army numbers on it (I think he can provide that. Not too sure about that right now, though...)
