Trump cannot end the Government shut down without the Democrats, especially Schumer, and their bipartisan discussion and compromise. Schumer keeps saying that Republicans control the Senate, House and the White House while knowing full well that the Senate cannot get this DONE without 60 votes and with only 53 Republican Senators. These comments are disingenuous obfuscation by Schumer.

He falsely has taken credit for negotiating the ceasefires between Thailand and Cambodia, between India and Pakistan, and between Egypt and Ethiopia. All those claims are blatantly false. India very specifically told him to butt out and mind his own business. So did Thailand. The "war" between Egypt and Ethiopia wasn't even a war, really, just an argument which they resolved without bloodshed, and without interference from any orangutans.

Perhaps some backwoods good ol' boys in the Appalachians who couldn't find Thailand on a map might believe Trump's claims. Nobody who actually pays attention to world affairs will fall for it.

His ass-kissing to Putin has completely failed to produce any reduction in hostilities from that quarter. Quite the opposite in fact.

His taking credit for ending the war in Gaza is the biggest lie of all. There was a ceasefire in effect prior to Trump taking office. Trump's inauguration gave new hope to Nutty Yahoo and encouraged him to abrogate the ceasefire. Essentially, Trump has needlessly prolonged the war by 10 months and now he's taking credit for ending it.

Nutty Yahoo's bombing raids on Iran and Qatar were similarly brought about with Trump's private encouragement. In fact, the U.S. actively participated in the attacks on Iran.

I won't disagree that Obama's was meaningless.

But I'll stand my ground on Trump. There's never been a man less deserving of the prize. He has sowed discord on many fronts. Even though he hasn't outright started any wars (yet) he has fanned the flames of the wars that existed, while encouraging disrespect for international laws and treaties, and maintaining a generally hostile attitude towards all nations great and small.

Hyperbole on nearly everyone of these points. As I recall, Trump is still talking to the Prime Minister of Canada to work out differences, especially as they relate to tariffs.

Some of this is true, it seems. I would argue that many of the charges against Trump were simply trumped up charges.

Assuming this is true, Biden accomplished NOTHING. Biden MAY have had a plan, but it never got any real progress under sleepy old Joe. It took the energy, commitment, and Time by Trump AND negotiations and efforts of MANY (nations and persons) to make this happen. It also took Israel (with some US Assistance) to take out other Iranian proxies, making Hamas vulnerable to pressure from Israel. This WOULD NOT have happened without Trump. PERIOD.

You like to throw that big word around, "ILLEGAL" especially in all caps.

Makes you feel like you're talking about criminals.

But in actual fact, the majority of deportees have only trivial offenses on their record. Many have simply overstayed their visa or made some technical error on their application. Some have traffic offenses. Only a minority have any kind of criminal record, and even in that group, the majority have ridiculous things like simple shoplifting arrests 20 years ago.

And of course, since ICE focuses on raiding workplaces, the overwhelming majority are people have been living productive lives at present, even if they had some minor tangle with the law years ago.

On this point you can rest assured that it's not hyperbole. Yes, Carney is kissing Trump's ass regularly and will eventually come away with some kind of a deal. But we had a deal, one which Trump himself dictated during his first term, one which Trump himself called “the best and most important trade deal ever made by the USA” (ref: https://www.texastribune.org/2020/08/12 ... as-mexico/). And of course, before that we had NAFTA, which Trump tore up for no reason and replaced with USMCA, which he then basically tried to tear up during his second term.

Trump reneging on deals he himself has made is nothing new of course. It's well established that in business or politics, his word means nothing. But this goes much deeper.

Much deeper. Canada and the U.S. have been staunch allies through two World Wars, Korea, Afghanistan, and minor conflicts in between. Canada was the only nation outside of the U.S. that had laboratories involved in the Manhattan Project. We've been partners in Norad and Nato and Nasa and numerous other agencies. A major part of those agreements has been the free flow of Canadian steel and aluminum to America's defense industries. Canadian steel rode in American battleships, Canadian aluminum flew in American jets, Canadian uranium was packed into American Titan missiles. After 112 years of Canadian resources helping to power America's defense industry, for Trump to spit on this alliance, try to bankrupt the Canadian steel and aluminum industries, and use "national security" as an excuse, is a really, really deep insult. I think if he was honest and said, "I want to destroy Canada because I'm a bully and they're small enough to push around" the backlash would have been less. But suggesting that your most faithful ally through two world wars and the Cold War was suddenly a threat has made him universally hated. It's not just the economic damage done, it's the deliberate insult.

Canadian steel and aluminum are built around American clients, and have been since 1914. They cannot be readily disentangled. When he first launched the steel and aluminum tariff at 25% in February, their profits were hurt but they rolled with the punch and managed to keep most of their customers. But he wasn't satisfied, so in June he doubled them to 50%, and soon the job losses began. They will be saved, most likely through taxpayer subsidies. Even if the tariffs were miraculously lifted today, the damage has been done.

And like I said, it's not just the economic damage, it's the insulting imputations. I don't think most people in the U.S. realize just how much public opinion has really shifted. I've lived in this country 57 years and I've never seen a groundswell of anger like this. People spend hours in the grocery store reading labels to make sure they're not buying American products. People who have wintered in Florida for decades aren't going this year. Some have sold their Florida condos, sometimes at a loss, just to get out. Short memory. The Biden-negotiated ceasefire in Gaza wasn't some "plan", it was an agreement that had been signed by both sides and was IN EFFECT at the start of Trump's term. "Energy" prices being down is misleading. Oil prices are down this year, but electricity prices are up. Oil prices cycle up and down constantly, so nothing dramatic there, but electricity prices have generally been less cyclical, so the rise is probably a little more alarming than the up-and-down of oil.

I cannot address matters about Canada and the US; I have never visited Canada and do not plan to do so. I have met a few Canadians and they are very decent people, but beyond what I read, there is little for me to address the issues you raise, Duk.

As far as electricity prices, I am sure they have gone UP and I do not study that matter, so I will not risk posting something ignorant.
