No way... Melee has a lot more advanced techniques. The game's been explored for 8 years as opposed to Brawl's 2. In fact I think the developer specifically designed Brawl to have shallower gameplay than Melee.
That's only one game though. The GC as a whole I think had slightly better games than the Wii, but obviously was sold to a narrower market. Nintendo needs to use all the Wii money to design a killer console next-gen with fantastic games, because Wii owners aren't going to buy the Wii 2 just for some upgraded graphics and a faster processor.
More advanced techniques? Like what? It's not like brawl actually changed much of the controls or game-mechanics. They added and removed a few things but we'd have to go into some serious nerd-discussion about that shit.
As for the GC, most games were worse especially Mario Sunshine.
Oh, I could go totally nerd right now. Physics engine, hitboxes, a lot more than you might think got changed. But I won't get into that unless I have to. GC had a few good games, like Wind Waker, but the console itself was too generic as far as game consoles go. Plus, it didn't have the processing power to run games with high graphics levels (the Wii can't run them either, the best I think the Wii can do in terms of HD is 480p) and size constraints caused some larger games to go to 2 discs. You do have to give Nintendo credit on its physical durability. That thing is a tank.
The mere fact that this thread has gone off topic to which Nintendo console is best is proof that Nintendo will not die any time soon.

Nintendo are
the best at what they do. Yeah, for your hardcore gamers then the 360 is much better, but Nintendo don't seem to be aiming themselves in that direction - a very good thing from their point of view, IMO. Nintendo are years ahead of the competition for casual gaming. A lot of folk don't want to spend hours on a computer game - I certainly don't - and the Wii DS allow exactly that - they're something that you can have a play on for an hour or two then forget about it.
Nintendo have very good quality control on their products, and the consoles (etc) themselves are generally very easy/intuitive to use. That's something that MS + Sony haven't got the hang of at all ... joypads are totally rubbish as controllers, at least for the non-hardcores like myself. I can't remember which one of eight buttons does which thing, I doubt I'm the only one, so I routinely get pumped at 360 games.
I also get pumped at Wii games, but at least I know it's poor technique

never any doubt as to how the controller relates to the actions on the screen.

Bingo! WII was and is a smashing hit.
You can slam Nintendo all you like, but they have a very large following. Ever seen a shirt with Halo on it? Likely not, but Mario, NES controllers, Zelda and many others yes. Nintendo has good marketing and does well with it. And since they are a Japanese company maybe they decided not to go full on blood and guts, rip the heart out type games. Then again maybe I am Bias....

My god bruce, seriously, do you use that picture for EVERYTHING?

My friends and I still have Goldeneye tourneys. I miss those lazy saturdays playing Goldeneye and Battle Tanx for 12 hours. Ah, the good ole days.
Ah Battle Tanx, now a days, simply awful graphics, but the sheer fun of unleashing a nuke and devastating all other tanks, even the slow but powerful Goliath Tanks.

I played Diddy Kong Racing for the first time

yesterday. For some reason I missed out on that game. Early 3D is hilarious in retrospect just because of how horrible it was.

This thread might have made a little sense if it were posted in the Game Cube era. As far as Nintendo systems go, GC loses, with N64 in a close second. The Wii has returned Nintendo to glory, in my eyes.
i dont know how you can say gamecube fails. the design of the controller fit your hand very well. when it came out, everyone i knew wanted a gamecube. the n64 did have alot of great games and whoever said mario galaxy was better then n64 must have hit his head recently. there were no flaws and it was an amazing game. but anyways, the gamecube had amazingly fun games. super smash bros. melee is still $20-$35. which is far better then some xbox 360 games and regular xbox games, as well as ps2 games as well. i can just list tons of games that i would still consider very fun to play. so i will.
1. legend of zelda: four swords 2. legend of zelda: twilight princess 3. tales of symphonia
4. ANY MARIO PARTY GAME 5. 007 night fire 6. mario kart double dash 7. fire emblem (amazing game) 8. metroid prime 9. super smash bros. melee 10. pikmin (fun game when your bored)
11. viewtiful joe 12. soul calibur 2 13. there was some good pokemon games i think
14. (and two of my favorite games) NBA street vol 2 and NBA street vol 3
i think ive made my point. great games, great controller, just great

I think you and I agree, mostly. the only difference being our ages. I was an NES/Super NES kid, while you seem to have been an N64/Game Cube kid.

The gamecube is a decent console. I played Metroid Prime and it was a great game. I am currently playing Pitfall: Lost Expedition which is more puzzle solving then fighting. My daughters played Animal Crossing for many weeks on this when they were younger.

Yet sales weren't very good. It did worse than the Xbox and couldn't even dream of looking at the slopes of the mountain at which the Playstation 2 sat.
It wasn't a bad console, it just wasn't special. It was generic. It had good games but frankly that's to be expected from Nintendo. You can't argue that it was a success as a console.
and whoever said mario galaxy was better then n64 must have hit his head recently. there were no flaws and it was an amazing game.
Mario Galaxy being better than Mario64 is simply fact. It couldn't actually be worse because it improves upon the almost perfect thing Mario64 was.
Seriously, play them both right now and you can't honestly keep the opinion that Mario64 is better. It undoubtedly was a major breakthrough in gaming but that's not the same as Best.
