I really really like it, but there needs to be lots of controls. I think you have thought of some good ones. The rank range, the no more than two at one time, etc.
I think 1.5 points might be more appropriate than 2 or 2.5.
I am ok with losing points for denying challenges. You pick the settings, it shouldn't matter!
I like this because it will be good for breaking the top players from farming up and avoiding games they don't want to play in lest they lose points.
There should be an option (like in control panel) to "Not send or accept ANY challenges" for those who don't want to participate.
My only real gripe is that this site is not just 1v1, and I feel this sort of encourages that. Minor gripe though.

Thanks for the reply. Those were some great ideas! They're now in the main topic and sourced.

There are players that choose team settings only, this will force them to play 1vs1

Personally, I'm not such a big fan of this option.
I don't like the premise that somebody else has control over my points. This is mainly due to the fact that the challenger gets to pick the map. The majority of the maps on CC are "standard", that is, they run on the basis of amassing territories for bonuses. However, there are a number that run on different bonus schemes, such as the AoR series, or Waterloo, or Feudal War. I know that I am terrible on these odd bonus maps, but some people can and do get exceptionally good at them.
Thus, it would be very simple for someone to specialize on a difficult map, then go through and challenge everybody on that map. The settings often play little role on the difficult maps, so the advantage returns to the challenger. Now the challenge-ee is stuck with the problem of either simply handing their points to the challenger by denying the challenge, or by playing on a map against a player who is very proficient on that map, and losing their points that way.
The second problem I see is application to freemiums. There is an easy solution - it's a premium option, but I don't know how difficult it would be to write the programming such that a premium member cannot challenge a freemium. If a premium player challenges a freemium, the issue is amplified such that the freemium won't likely want to tie up a game on a map s/he knows s/he is destined to lose.
I already see this map specialization taking hold in the 1v1 tournaments. I'd hate to see it move out of that small section of CC.

Can we say callouts? Seriously you cannot lose points, because you do not want to play a game with someone. Just PM someone if you want to challenge them.

I don't think that that's the point to this suggestion - This enables rank advancement much quicker and higher stakes. It's also an option, so if you don't want to be bothered by challenges, you don't have to take them.

Except that you're saying you would lose points by not taking them.

That's why there is the Do not send or accept any challenges option.

No, I've said that there will be an option in the game settings that allows you to ignore all challenges at no cost, provided you don't send any out. Maybe I didn't put that in the main post. I'll have to check.
*edit* Yeah, I didn't put that in the main post. My bad.

Agreed. Still support this idea though.

Threads merged.
Throw down the Gauntlet - Pistols at Dawn *Pending* - posts 1 June 2007 to 27 October 2008 -
first post hereChallenge! Option - posts 18 to 21 November 2008 -
first post hereThese two ideas are very similar if not identical. Where there are differences I would suggest that the original posters - yeti_c and Inhuman14 - and other interested parties work together to produce the ulitmate version of the idea.

Thanks, I didn't see this topic when I searched. I think the fundamental difference between our ideas is that mine allows for extra point gain/loss. Either solution would improve the site, in my opinion.

This is what this site needs.
Didn't know this existed. Still support both ideas.
