I'm not a full-newb anymore, but I am still relatively inexperienced.
Also I have a naturally inquisitive nature. I like to question, hypothesize and debate. I would do that regardless of role.

N.B. My policy within this game will be to not directly engage with non-players.

If Gollum dies he can't be tortured to reveal the location of Bilbo and The Ring to Sauron, thus preventing the Ring Wraiths their ability to give chase to the Hobbits prior to them forming The Fellowship. This would prevent Frodo from being stabbed by one of their blades and potentially prevent The Fellowship being broken up during Boromir's attempt to seize The Ring for himself as the probability of Orc attack at that time would be somewhat reduced. Whether this would have a negative consequence on the ability to fend off Saruman is a matter of some debate due to Merry and Pippin only meeting the Ents after their capture during the Boromir incident, however Gandalf seems knowledgable about the Ents and may have enlisted their help himself if not for the Hobbits. Without these setbacks Frodo would have carried The Ring for considerably less time, reducing its hold over him and preventing the need for Gollum to wrest it from Frodo's hand at Mount Doom.

Oh, and... spoiler alert.

This is kinda OT, but I would expect the bad guys to be the orcs, and maybe have Smaug as a tier-party. I don't seee Gollum being in the setup.
And while I'm at it, I'm a bit confused by this line of the opening post:

I feel like 13/14 (if we include Gandalf) townies would make it pretty unbalanced. Then again, this post is probably only flavor.

There is no way Smeagol is not in this game.

@Zabeast,good catch, should be 14 hats including wizard and 15 total with Bilbo, so who is missing? @ Mudpuppy are you soft claiming Sméagol ?

Pretty sure one of those hoods belongs to Bilbo as he made the 13th person in the party... so, Zabeast's initial estimate of 13-14 starting adventurers would be the better guess. Initial thought is Smeagol & Smaug are the primary bad guys but trolls are an option too. Goblins are a possibility too.

Maybe the Lord of the Eagles could be a busser?

Seems like thor might be pulling the "look how helpful I'm being" scum strategy while not actually giving any game-specific info.

The way I read the prompt, the 13 people are wearing hoods, means we can't really be sure who's who. I'm guessing some are imposters.

First four obviously should be in this(*cough*gollum*cough*) and Bard seems pretty likely, elrond maybe and sauron not too likely imo. Of dwarves probably the only we can be sure of is thorin. Everything else is a tossup.

There's not enough posts from him to actually know, but he seems confused himself, he made two posts about Gollum, including one explaining why he is important using the Lord of the Rings story. (Talking about Gollum, I don't remember seeing him much in the Hobbit (at least the movie). If it was a Lord of the Rings mafia, of course he'd be there but I'm not so sure about this one.)

You're probably right, I would expect some dwarves to be saved as fake claims for mafia. Sad part is it makes it hard to guess the setup.

Hmm, this is the second time Bujaber took a first round potshot at me...
Last time that happened, it was dakky in Mass Effects trying to divert suspicion off himself because he was the cult recruiter... I FOSed him about it at the time, but everybody ignored me and decided that dakky was obviously the shining knight of the Town and obviously above suspicion. FOOLS! The rest of the game was just a victorious cakewalk for the Cult....

Now the complicating fact in that situation, was that, last time, I actually happened to be one of the scum... but that was ENTIRELY COINCIDENTAL. dakky had nothing on me and only targeted me because I was a noob that made an easy target.
