Welcome to the real world Neo.

I'm not saying I like it. I am however saying that this is a common practice for most provided services today.
It is in the interest of the businesses to force the consumer to remember to cancel a service, instead of having to woo the consumer in an attempt to secure repeat business (like it should be done, in a perfect world).

It's annoying, but has become a part of life.

On a related topic, if anyone reading this knows the above "all too well", and has lost track of the services they are being charged for, my advice is to cancel your card and start from scratch. Sure, not having access to your netflix account for four minutes will be frustrating, but chances are you are going to save yourself money by unknowingly cancelling some service you don't even use and have forgotten about :)

And what is that exactly?

Please to refrain from quoting the challenged special few that don't play the game and exist only to loop conversations.

Allah Akbar, hippie skrillex is spitting truth today. I cancel my card on a regular basis.

what nobody is saying is this:

sirius xm tells you that it is a renewing service. as does netflix, and every other app i have ever bought. cc does not tell you that. they used to, when it was ran in the correct way and thriving with zero lag. things have changed. this is my last post in this thread.

You know this could serve as Confedrate's banner and it'd save us all a lot of time.

It's not really a matter of what is legal or illegal though. I don't think anyone has argued that CC is breaking a law, so that line seems to be a dodge- a strawman argument.

BigWham pointed me to the same thing. The section you highlight is at the 10,000 word mark.

This is something that should and could be indicated at the initial sign up. No question. Its decptive

Ok, but if you click the "Terms" link like I showed, it actually goes directly to that section, so it's right there on the screen, you don't have to scroll for it.

Perhaps. I don't have a strong opinion on that. I wouldn't have a problem with the site making that even more clear, but I still think people would complain either way. My point wasn't that we're doing the best job we possibly can here, just refuting ronc's claim that we literally don't say this anywhere.

Some good thoughts on both sides, my original point stands, I have been here since the 1st year, you can say 'Everybody does it so it must be O K' . 9 years in a row, I got a notice, I then went and paid because I thought it was worth it, the point being it was my choice, when it becomes 'automatic' the defense is 'You didn't read the new fine print' I don't read newly created contract minutia, I play Risk, there was less than 200 members here when I joined. I am sure the management brown nosers will come out again now. I have made my point.

Absolutely nothing wrong with reminding people. However, even with a reminder there are people who will forget to renew, and that represents a lot of lost revenue. That is why 90% of Internet sites use a subscription system nowadays.

Well, it seems like that anyone that "forgets" to renew would find out about it soon enough when they no longer had premium privileges, and then they would simply renew. The truth seems closer to being that when people are not active enough here to notice when their subscription has lapsed, that we had better quickly bill them, or else lose any opportunity to get any more of their money whatsoever. The real tragic downside is that people might become totally inactive and then not notice that they are continued being billed for perhaps months, or even years. I'm pretty sure that there would be no refunds forthcoming. What's more, it seems like this policy is really specifically targeting these people. In other words, just because you left the site, doesn't mean that we shouldn't continue to use you as a resource to keep the ship afloat.

Rather than just gripe though, I have a suggestion. I always make sure that I am notified of continuing subscriptions, (after having been burned by other sites in the past), by simply paying with paypal, (which you can do here, and I always do when I can), and then immediately after the first payment, simply going into my paypal account and canceling the authorization for continuing payments. That way, sites that have this policy will bill paypal, be refused payment, and immediately send me a message of such and ask for me to renew.
