DoomYoshi wrote:the Kendalls do a great version of Wayfaring Stranger. It's a pretty mysterious track, since it first appeared on album 10 years ago and the elder Kendall had already been dead 10 years. It's easy enough to find on torrent sites etc. but there are no YouTube links or anything. I can't really post the original since it's a Roud indexed song and therefore predates recordings.

Yup, looks to have originated in the 19th century, so you have my pardon for not posting the original.

Here's a couple of covers though:

Johnny Cash

Neil Young

I've discovered that song recently too and the Elvis version is definitely the best. I got an 8-disc set of Elvis' gospel music. At work not only do I leave Bibles in the trucks, I also leave gospel CDs in the players. The one in my truck currently has that song.

Freddy's DEAD!!! get down Mr. Mayfield...

and now FISHBONE doing what they do!!!

if fishbone were to reform the original lineup (fish and angelo are still going at it, with a a sprinkling of other members and recently made amends to their KIDNAPPED compatriot... *snicker*)... if they reformed and did ONE tour, they would make more money than they have made in their entire career. someone needs to get this done...-Jn

This Here is a song that came out a few days after the original, made superior by the lack of lyrics. As I have maintained in earlier threads, there is no music so good that it can't be ruined by shitty singers.

When you steal my stock lines, you should pay me a royalty.

Here's the song I originally said that about:

Blank Space by Taylor Swift was crushed by Ryan Adams... i heard him do this live and everyone in the audience laughed when he said that he was working on a cover of the entire Taylor Swift "1989" album... "oh, ryan... you soooo, crazy!!" anyway, love the originals video, because it reminds me of my psycho ex...

you listen to this song or this entire album and you truly appreciate the Taylor Swift song writing machine and how amazing the songs are that they then have her ruin with over production... this cover is amazing....

beautiful cover..-Jésus noir

I kinda love this cover of Britney Spears' "Hit me Baby One More Time", but mainly because it's a really emo Indie band kind of taking the piss out of themselves at the same time as making the poppiest of pop songs into a song that could have been written for them.

Original: Britney Spears (1998)

Cover: Travis (2003?)

I can't tell if this a better cover song or not. I love the original, and the Hendrix version, but I just don't know if I just like the novelty at the moment.

Yes, it's called "Around".

All Around the Watchtower- Rayko/Em Vee

Here's a good cover of The Flying Burrito Brother's Sin City. Not better, because how does one improve upon the classic Parsons/Hillman lineup? But still excellent, because it's Uncle Tupelo. Sin City--Uncle Tupelo

Speaking of The Flying Burrito Brothers, their version of Wild Horses is excellent. Technically, it's the original, but the Stones wrote it, I guess.
