I've been to two games in the past week. Wings won both. They are also they only games they won this past week, against Los Angeles and New Jersey. Coincidence? I think not.

Bollocks.

I'm like a day late. Tampa Bay has beaten all comers. Now Chicago gets a turn to fight for the Belt. I predict TB 4 CHI 3.

Christ almighty, one of the best regular season games I've ever seen.

Tied 2-2 with the Rangers, go into overtime, a bunch of breakaways, Henrik and Fleury are stopping everything, Rangers get a 4 on 3 and the Pens kill it. Then, in the shootout, Rangers score and think they win the game. Both teams go into the locker room, but the refs review it, have both teams come back out and rule that the Ranger double tapped the puck after it hit the post. Sutter scores next one, Fleury saves on Nash and the Pens win

For the past three weeks, the Red Wings are undefeated on Friday's with convincing wins over Los Angeles, New Jersey and Chicago. They are winless on all other days, losing to Buffalo (SO), Ottawa, Rangers (OT), and Tampa (SO). I mention all this because Detroit hosts Montreal tonight, and I'm attempting a reverse jinx with a twist in an effort to secure a victory.

Study: 57 Percent Of NHL Free Agents Signed With Teams With Lower Tax Rate

Two Canadian teams, the Edmonton Oilers and Calgary Flames, paid the lowest true roster tax rate, accounting for federal and local taxes in the 2013-14 season, at 38.1 percent and 38.3 percent respectively. The Florida Panthers, Tampa Bay Lightning, Dallas Stars, Nashville Predators, and Phoenix Coyotes (now identify as the “Arizona Coyotes”) come close behind.

The Montreal Canadiens, one of the league’s most storied franchises having won the most Stanley Cups in the NHL’s history, has the worst true roster tax rate with 53.9 percent, with all three of the California teams, the current Stanley Cup champions Los Angeles Kings, Anaheim Ducks, and San Jose Sharks not far behind with 53 percent, 52.9 percent, and 52.3 percent each. The New York Rangers, who play in the heart of Manhattan, do not fare much better at 52.1 percent.

I suppose it would be nasty to point out that on home ice, the Islanders beat the Penguins 4-1 the next day.

There is nothing like going to a bar after a long two hour concert of singing classical music (mostly in Latin) and seeing your team dominate the ice on the TV Screen. It makes the IPA taste better. (I also had a crab meat stuffed avocado.)

I appreciate you sharing your strange desires (sounds a little like that movie, "Debbie Does Dallas" ... "AoG Does the Islanders") but I think I'll pass.

The Wings have only lost 5 games in regulation, tied with Nashville. Only Anaheim and Pittsburgh are better, with 4 regulation losses each.

Well, it's not really a belt, it's more of a cup holder.

the Bruins got away with highway fucking robbery last night against the Pens. The Pens get a perfectly ok goal waved off because Zach Sill was checked into Rask and then the Bruins had a clear high stick goal allowed in OT.

I'm sorry but a good team should be able to handle one bad call. And clearly the high stick was not as clear as you claim. You can't win EVERY GAME you know.

Actually, I was fucking pissed. I was at a wedding shower (yes, I was at a wedding shower for a wedding I wasn't apart of; apparently this is a new "thing") and I missed the whole fucking game. I'm still fucking pissed. But the result made me happy, especially since we lost 7-2 at Philly the previous afternoon.

I started playing daily fantasy hockey yesterday. I came third of 93 and won $1.10. Except its not legal tender, I can only use it to play daily fantasy hockey.

Hey Suzyn can cry any time she wants!

Oh wait, we are talking hockey ...

I have a feeling there will be a few people crying on the last game (probably in the playoffs) the Islanders will host in Nassau Colosseum (not mine).

Daily Fantasy Hockey?

I generally play 50/50 games on FanDuel. Real money, but I'm talking about $2 games that if you win (and half the people in the game does) you get back your money + $1.60. Even with some hints from another fantasy sports site I'm lucky to win half of the games which means I'm slowly loosing money.

On a fantasy level, hockey can be really hard to predict. Sometimes the magic works and your players are the ones who score the points (as opposed to the players on the other lines of the team) and sometimes the goal keeper gets a shutout and that boots the points considerably. Since the best players cost the most (and may not always perform the best on a given night) choosing the right players for the right price is important.

There are other tournaments and one on one games as well, but until I am really comfortable, I think $2 a day (ignoring the days I forget to play) is enough.

My skill is in drafting goalies. Everything else is controlled randomness.

Fantasy hockey can be incredibly difficult to pick on a day to day, or even a week to week basis. There's so much variability in who scores when, although the goalies are easier to predict this year than past years due to disparity in the league.

I much prefer season long fantasy hockey, so that you're not punished for picking Crosby on an off night, or not picking Ovechkin when he scores 4 goals in a game. It balances over the season and actually rewards managers for paying attention to long-term trends.
