I gotta say Dave Mustaine for the simple reason he inspired me to actually pick up the guitar. Over the years a ton of guitar masters have piqued my attention:
Dave Mustaine (Megadeth)
Alex Skolnick (Testament)
Ritchie Blackmore (Rainbow, Deep Purple)
Andy Laroque (King Diamond)
Trey Azagthoth (Morbid Angel)
KK Downing and Glenn Tipton (Judas Priest)
Mike Davis (Nocturnus)
Jimmy Paige (if you don't know, sucks to be you!)
Enough for now. New names keep popping up, and not just for sheer technical skill either. I love distinctive guitar styles. To me thats typically the signature of the master.

Re: I wish I could play the guitar like...
Remember this is not "Who the best guitarist" thread.. its just guitarist that we like and would love to be able to play like... I do understand there is going to be a wide range of diff styles and artist, and depending on what music style we like, we will most likely choose guitarists from those styles... hoping we can introduce each other to music we have never heard before, and more importing "master" guitarist we have never heard before!
Keep it coming and keep on rockin!

I don't consider any guitarist "The Best" but there are certainly many distinguished masters.
No way to forget Billy Gibbons or Carlos Santana or Al Di Meola or John McLaughlin
or Phil Keaggy or Preston Reed... or the inventor of the electric guitar, Les Paul.
and let's not forget the girls...
Bonnie Raitt or Ana Popovic or these young Aussies, Tal Wilkenfeld and Orianthi Panagaris
Bonnie Raitt reminded me of Little Feat who have a nice sound and can definitely rock it
and all that slide guitar made me think of Duane Allman. He really got around in his short life, but his contributions to the Allman Brothers Band and Derek and the Dominoes are still special to me... and Derek Trucks continues that tradition these days.

You're not old enough for that to be true.

No love for Django Reinhardt?
Re: I wish I could play the guitar like...
I dunno what makes a guitar player good, what songs are difficult to play, etc, so I have no idea which person I'd love to be able to play like. I did see an awesome comment on youtube about Dave gilmour. It went something like, "why are people always comparing David Gilmour to God? Sure, he can play the guitar well, but he ain't no David Gilmour."
