I'm working on adding Ontario (the providence of Canada) right now.
natty_dread wrote:Ok... Iron & Marquette seem to be weirdly "split" by the forests... makes the map a bit unclear. Perhaps you can cut the forest so that the territories stay whole?

Also, when you redo the borders... it's a good idea to make the borders between bonus areas slightly thicker than borders between territories.

I was trying to make it like how Louisiana is on American Civil war (one territ split by an impassable), but I don't think it's working out so nicely. I'll fix that, and thanks for the bonus borders suggestion. That'll just take a second to fix :D

Yes you can, it's just setup badly at an attempt to be tricky. I have it fixed, I just want to add more stuff before I update it.

The trees? Yeah, they're bad. They're just their to allocate game play for now, though. I also changed the background color to a lighter shade. Once it's up it can be viewed upon.

I think that should be lowered.

*gulps* Uhhh... To my knowledge one is not allowed to move their own map thread (this applies to Cartos, too)... But what do I know, right?

Anywho, how's the draft with the fresh gameplay coming along, rds?

I didn't know that, and I would never do it past this into gameplay or anything. Anywho, ok. I think I have Canada in successfully. I'm working on some arrows for one-ways and better...err, trees. I've been sick most of the week, so it's been a little slow.

Please don't move threads around.
Anyway it seems your map belongs to the drafting room, so this is the correct forum, but seriously don't do it again!

Sooooo I have photoshop now, and I don't know if I can convert this gimp file into it. I don't suppose I'm too far into this, so should I just start over in Photoshop and scrap what I have? Is there a way I can convert the file over? Anyone know?

Is it a trial play? Or did you buy it?

My comments (as a Michigan, and more specifically Detroit area, native):
Detroit, Michigan's largest and most important city, is in Wayne County. You can't have a map of Michigan without giving a nod to Wayne.
On that note, I'd make sure that all the counties that the big cities reside in are represented (I'm talking about Lansing, Grand Rapids, Saginaw, etc.) In fact, given the importance of the tri-county area, it would be nice to include both Oakland and Macomb with Wayne, but I realize that might be asking a lot.

And on a personal aside: I hope you don't give this any real crazy, nonsensical gameplay - bombards, auto-deploy, weird attacks... just keep it simple. Michigan is fairly simple, so let's not go crazy. :D

Otherwise, I'd love a Michigan map, almost as much as I'd love a Detroit map.

But then no one else would really care about this map, to put it bluntly. There has to be something fresh in the gameplay department for my approval (not that that necessarily means much, unless the cartos agree with me ;) ).

To put it bluntly right back - I, for one, am sick and tired of all the stupid maps that are being pumped out right now. I love basic gameplay maps, and if anything ever manages to drive me off this site, it will be a glut of nonsensical, "different for the sake of being different", crazy must-read-a-book-to-understand insane maps. Adding stupid features for the sake of adding them are annoying and as pointless as you feel basic maps are.

:-k Have you ever thought about joining a regional themed clan? If so give me or Victor a PM. ;)

As for the map, I'm liking it a lot more than when I first saw it. The forests are a nice touch. There are a couple things that this is missing.

#1 Detroit. Just make it a territory at the very least, and that forest in it's location is just weird.

#2 Water features. I used to spend a week every summer in Michigan and to me the land is defined by Lakes Rivers and Forests. You've got the Forest's but you need some Lakes and Rivers all up in there.

Amen! A lot of people like the basics! Every map is unique on it's own right. Some maps will require unique features by their natures and others won't. This one won't IMO. Granted this probably won't be one of the busiest maps on the site, but that's alright too. Some maps appeal to only a small nitch group.

That being said I don't think ports or Auto-deploys are all that weird.

I actually have ports and one ways on a new map draft, but the arrows are horrible graphically, so I hadn't uploaded it yet 8-[

I'm going to get a hold of griff for some photoshop help. Also, a question for all of you, any recommended textures? I don't know if the one I have currently is all that nice. Someone gave me an idea to do something similar to Route 66 (map on a table), and I wasn't sure on how it would be perceived.
