I appreciate the feedback and this is actually a valid point.
If there would be an additional option to switch between basic (current) history and advanced history (something similar to small/large map) would the proposal make more sense?
Best regards, George

that would be a good option

Search, and you will realize this has been suggested before under Gamelog 2.0.

List All Attacks in Game Log

Hey guys,
Something I noticed is that when a player attacks a territory but doesn't take it there isn't a mention of it in the
Game Log. Is there anyway of changing this to
show all attacks made.
It doesn't really affect gameplay but it would be nice to see who does what during their turn. I'm playing the North America map and my opponent attacked me from California to Oregon and did some damage but nothing showed up in the log. It's not a big deal because it's my own territory and I noticed I have fewer armies than before, but when an opponent attacks someone else in the game and doesn't conquer the territory there's no real way of knowing anything happened (unless you can actually remember the number of armies every territory had prior to their turn).
This also might help ease
collusion accusations between players who are actually attacking each other but just not conquering territories because they stop after taking a certain amount of causalties.
Just a thought...

aren't logs in old games are useful for investigating abuse reports? investigating single-user multiple accounts? etc.?

i don't mean to cry about this or anything but it will ruin a lot of tactics and should be optional just like cards, to check if the new game log has a positive or negative effect

I don't think it will be optional. If you play world domination in person, you'd be privy to such information of where an opponent attacks, but doesn't take a country.

Game Log Update
Posted: Sun Feb 25, 2007 8:28 pm
by Gilligan
The game log tells you, for example,
2007-02-25 19:46:00 Gilligan deployed 3 armies on Nepal.
2007-02-25 19:46:10 Gilligan attacked India from Nepal and conquered it from lackattack
2007-02-25 19:46:29 Gilligan ended attacks.
2007-02-25 19:47:45 Gilligan fortified India with 6 armies from Pakistan.
2007-02-25 19:50:23 Gilligan ended fortification.
This could be useful in freestyle games, especially RT ones for all of those people that wait to attack. What do you guys think?

Record failed invasions in the game log

There's alot of useful information on the game log, such as:
2007-03-26 19:25:42 - CreepyUncleAndy attacked Pakistan from India and conquered it from zachomega
How about adding failed attacks to the game log, so everyone can see how hosed you (or your foe) got trying to take some territory. For example, had my earlier attack failed, perhaps the game log could report it as follows:
2007-03-26 19:25:42 - There was a skirmish on the border between Pakistan and India.

Oh,
THAT'S what that is? Awesome.....sorry to spam.
I guess we can use this thread to discuss what format these extra log entries take. I take it for granted the attacking region would come first, but should it be worded:
"The border between Panama and Guatemala"
or should it be worded:
"The Panama-Guatemala border"
????

To create an application that can show the game replay, the program would need to know who starts with which continents. I was thinking about writing one of my own, but then realized that the information in the game log was too incomplete for me to successfully write one.
Game log detail

Game log, in more detail.
I believe that the game log is in need of more detail. By this, i mean breaking down the "so and so attacked so and so and conquered such and such from so and so" to the amount he/she attacked, with the amount he/she attacked with. Also, if someone tries to attack, and fails, it doesn't come up in the game log, and it could be helpful, to see if they have attacked, or if they've been attacked.
I've found myself in games, if I've made a alliance or something, wondering if the guy has attacked my men, to weaken me, or if he was attacked by the other player to weaken him.
Although not overly necessary, it would be a nice addition to an already great system.
Priority: 2 1/2
Thanks,
John

Game log recording attacks
Posted: Wed Apr 25, 2007 9:46 pm
by flashleg8
I've had a quick look but I can't see if anyone has brought this up before.
I would like the game log to display the attack moves a player makes in their turn. Currently it only records when an attack is successful and a territory is taken - not when an attack is taken but was halted or unsuccessful. The way only to work this out is to realise that some troops have been lost. If you are playing multiple games at once its hard to keep track of exact troop amounts.
I would like this feature added as sometimes I see a player has dropped to a territory and attacked somewhere but been unsuccessful - and there is no way to know what they attacked, unless in that attack he killed an opposing player troop and I remember how many troops where there before.
If this was implemented (I believe it should be relatively simple) you could tell at a glance, and adjust your strategy accordingly.
It would also have the added bonus of making it easier to recreate the games on a board or to read through other peoples games.
Priority: Low to medium.
