high fructose corn syrup is lame.
I'm beginning to realize how much the average american consumes that stuff, which would explain their obesity problem.

A big part of it, yup. Also, real sugar makes things significantly more delicious than HFCS ever could.
Tangent about HFCS: Ever BEER uses it now (large manufacturers, that is. Micro-brews tend to do it properly still), to artificially raise the starch/sugar content of their wort before adding the yeast, in order to make an extra-strong brew, and then water it down to proper alcoholic content. And THAT's how they can manage multi-million dollar advertising campaigns while still under-pricing your local brewery.

Yes, it absolutely explains a lot of it. It is a (if not the) primary cause.

I drink alot of Coke Cola yet I look average...If not athletic.

I was the same way before being put into the situation of basically having to. You get used to it...much like coffee, tea or (from what I understand) beer, which also taste pretty crappy the first time you try them straight.
