The only thing that is really going to help you is to have army shadows on all the places that are territories or some people will always be confused.

I really think you need to orient all the font so its in the same direction as marv suggested. It's terribly annoying to have upside down font and words on their side.

It also doesn't make sense that, in Monopoly, rent on Baltic is two bucks while rent on Boardwalk is like $40. The progessive bonuses mirror the board game after which this is fashioned.

It makes perfect sense because the Baltic costs $60 with $4 rent when the boardwalk costs $400 with $50 rent. I think the bonuses should be put to a vote.[/b]

I put a poll up, everyone please vote...

My goal by adding the two bills ($1 and $100) was twofold: keep the territory count at 48 spaces so there are no neutral armies, and make blue and green harder to hold to better match the continent bonuses... what If I made the bills light blue and light green and they ARE part of the continents? Does that make sense?

I'll put up a new map early next week (anti-alias the questions marks and add army numbers to make the territories more clear).

The map is currently a little wide, so I'm also looking for ways to narrow it...

Having it be as the real board game is wouuld take a lot of strategy away from the game... what would matter most would be your luck to either A. have alot of countries in the higher ones... or B. have better luck with the dice and get the higher scored ones therefore making you unstopible.

Could make the clockwise progression make more sense:
-$1 is part of Blue continent (tint it lt. blue).
-$100 is part of Green (tint it lt. green).
-Orange, Green and Blue have 6 territories each.
-Nudge $500 bill over so Orange only has 3 border territories.
    -Nudge $20 & $100 up a space.
-Move $1 so it touches $20 giving Green/Blue another shared border.
-Blue has 3 borders, Green has 4.

I think this would balance the bonuses better, no?

I'm fine with the increasing bonuses, but I think you should adjust the continents to match those bonuses as you have just stated.

It's true that in Monopoly Boardwalk and park place give the most benefit but they also cost the most.

I think if you want to make the high end spaces here give the most armies you also have to make them harder to hold (cost more). If you can make adjustments like that around the board so the bonuses reflect appropriate values, then the theme would work out well.

If its left with increasing bonuses but less territories in some cases, then the theme will look okay but the playability would suffer.

I second that, I was going to say the same but then read the last post.

So, Boardwalk's rent is 1/8 its buying price and Baltic's rent is 1/15 its buying price.

Your argument is falling apart.

So the Orange Bill - that borders 4 different squares? Having it ever so slightly on the "Free Army" square is a bit confusing!!

Otherwise love the map!!

Monopoly + Risk = Awesome!!

The point is that his current map has the bonuses progressing without making it cost more (having more territorries, borders, ect.) I agree with sully that they should only have progressing bonuses if they are harder to hold.

Hm, how could you achieve making it progressive bonus wise, yet keeping it balanced...?

Hm, as you move around the map, perhaps more one way borders to the higher profile deeds...but that seems like it would ruin gameplay.

Hm, I'm at a loss, and I rather liked the idea of progressive bonusing. Perhaps it could work, I'll have to ponder it later, but also maybe more normal bonusing might just have to be used...

Hm...**Scratches his head**

new map

So here's the new board:
Image
changes as described in my last post:
Moved $500 down; orange has fewer borders.
Colored $1 and $100 bills to go with their continents; blue/green have more territories.
Moved $1 to give blue/green more borders.
Added army numbers to make countries clear.
Made map narrower (close to 800 wide now).
Cleaned up question marks (those below chance deck still need work)

Red/yellow continents aren't any harder to hold than pink/orange... any ideas to make them match the bonuses better?

I'm going to try having all the text right side up for the small board and see what people think of it. I'll post a poll for the name later this week.

I know this defies normal monopoly, but you could swap the red question with the orange war chest and make the war chest deck red. That would make them harder for sure.

i guess you could get rid of the $500 bill.

I was thinking about this myself... it makes sense in a lot of ways... but I really am trying to resist major changes to the spaces. I really want to put the utilities back on here! So much!

The utilities would make yellow harder to get/hold (no direct connection to the yellow deck)... but doesn't do anything for red.

this is exactly what i was thinking-- seems kinda unfair that orange should have the extra bill for a territory and have to deal with the war chest.

Note Pink & Blue are harder to hold than Red and Orange due to Attack Jail square providing a teleport in...

Here's an idea - perhaps the ?'s don't border each ? they border the Deck of cards that they relate too?

Or have I missed the point and this is how they work...

Note Orange is tricky as you have to hold the Deck too...

Red & Brown are the easiest continents to hold - I know "war" chest is orange but maybe Red would make balance better?

Do you know what would be ace... to have "pieces" instead of numbers - then in this board you could have Houses for 5's & Hotels for 10's!!

Does the pink War Chest borders the War Chest Deck?

And the names of the yellow and red areas are upside down now. That is off course the way they are on the Monopoly board, but for game play it might be better to reverse them, so they are easier to read.

They "cost" more in that everyone playing the game will probably be trying to get easy-to-hold Blue and its ilk. There's more to the dynamic of a map that the number of territories and borders.

Part of the reason I don't want to change spaces/layout of the board is so you can easily play it on a real monopoly board (use the hotels and houses for the red/green players, etc.). The main problem with this is that the cards all have the space names on the back, so you need some blank cards or something to hide your hand, draw from the bottom of the deck, and you need to mark suits on the cards (soldier, horse, cannon).

Yes, all four "?" spaces can attack the deck, but not each other. Likewise with the war chest. I'll think about adding some more instructions for clarity... I welcome any thoughts on how to keep further instructions brief and clear.

I updated the latest image to clean up the "?" icons, and added all four colors under each deck. You may need to refresh the page/image in your browser if the old one is still cached.

Army shadows are not required... would you prefer them? Why?
