Maybe another idea would be a league system. wherebye your rank determines who you can and cant play against. Say.. one or two ranks either side. Keep the scoring system as it is because between closley ranked players it works very well. It only falls down when generals come up against noobs. Without actualy knowing the numbers of player in each rank it is hard to say whether or not it could be implemented. but it would do away with the higher rank players knocking out the privates to minimise point losses.

When I do get to play against a General I relish the prospect of taking him out - it would be a shame if we lost this.

Yes Tals I also relish the prospect of taking down a General (and have done so on a few occasions) but this is the reason why not many Generals will play in open games. Not only do they have a great deal more to lose but are hunted down by the likes of me you and probably every other lower ranked player in the game. sorry taken down a Colonel not a General.
