Don't get me wrong Sbrylski, I would love to see a Pangea map be successful, but this quote by you...

See I'm hearing two different things now. You are the most vocal and saying it won't work in this form, but some have said to keep going. I'll work alittle more then put up a poll...

If by some people you mean this...

.. then you are listening to the wrong people.

Listen, you don't need a poll to ask if you want to continue or not. If you want to then just do it.

I honestly hope it works. But just look at the history of pangea maps and you will know what works and what does not.

Ha! No, I didn't take what he said seriously. There were others though.

I do appreciate your presence in this thread, Sprock.

We could have space battles with the CIS and the Republic. perhaps take a look at the Star Wars RISK board game.

I havent seen the board or the battlefield first hand but it could be a start. TYVM for your time and i shall also look for maps and try to make a design :D

Stargate based map [UPDATE 2.1] Added Poll for Name

I've started on my first map, it is based off of the Stargate SG-1 universe (season 8 and before).

Please keep one thing in mind as you're looking at it: I've only had GIMP on my dinosaur of a computer for a bit over 24 hr.

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y210/jwev79_alpha/CC%20map%20uploads/SG1boardfoundy1.jpg
Ok here's how it works:
It is divided into three alliances (continents) left side is Ta'uri, right side is the System Lords and middle is Neurtal. The bonus for controlling an alliance is +7 armies.

The Ta'uri and System Lords each have three systems made up of a combination of planets and there is one system in the Neutral as well. The bonus for a system is +4.

The smallest planets have one zone to be controled. The larger the planet, the more zones to control. The biggest (Earth) has 4 zones. Control any planet has 3+ zones will give a +2 bonus.

[Here is where the Stargate enters the picture] There is two ways to move between planets- Stargate and Starship. On each planet there will be zone(s) designated either Stargate or Shipyard. Stargate attack to Stargate; shipyard attack to shipyard. When all Gates or shipyards inside an alliance is controlled by the same player, +1.

So the numbers work out like this:

Each allaince has a total of 20 zones.
Ta'uri Alliance will have 8 Gates and 5 shipyards; max bonus (unless my math is screwed up) is +29

Neutral has 8 gates and 6 shipyards; Max bonus +19

System Lords have 8 Gates and 7 shipyards; Max bonus +29

I also do have one question: how big of an area do I need for the army numbers? I would like to make my 1 zone planets 1 or 2 pixels bigger than that.

Thank you for you input.

UPDATE 2.0

After seeing inital reaction, I had changed to working on it as I feel, but now seeing some intrest, I'll go ahead an post what I've changed so far and make more effort to work on it. This update is still in progress and I've been slow having to go through all changes that I decided to do.

i looked at the real map of IKEA and had an idea: maybe the different colours could be the different continents?

It would be new since they are not close to each other.

Maybe you should do that since it would be much more interesting.

Sorry, that was overly harsh. But really, I really don't like the whole concept of the map. It just seems kind of dumb.

I am a huge stargate fan, and I have remarks to take your map down, on the names only :D

Concept is definate good

nvm thought about that, since the whole LOTR map is here, but it isnt titles LOTR.. but i though you could make something Star wars as long as you dont sell or get any profit from it, directly. for example making a fan film isnt going against copy right laws. but now i think about it, even though STAR WARS is like the most awesome thing ever i cant think of a good map for it.

WAY OFF TOPIC BUT THIS IDEA JUST HIT ME !!!!!!!!!!!perhaps (WAY OFF TOPIC) i think it would be cool to have a Wal-Mart (this is a example) map. like have a store from a 3rd person POV were you look down on the store, you have the Toys,Clothing,Foods,Electronics,Gardening areas, that have there own little areas, like Girls clothing, Boys clothing, other.... Dairy,Breads.

The CC line now seems to be that you need to email the Star Wars people for copyright, and if they don't respond you're fine to go ahead anyway. So i'd do that. :D

BlockLand map

Small:

Territories: 37

I decided to create a map that would be truly unique and different from any other map. I didn't just want to pick some new location, because so many locations have been done already... I wanted a map that would be actually interesting and different to play, and that would have its own strategies to win. The map I came up with is this. It consists of an outer ring of islands in which you can only go clockwise from island to island. This has the potential of introducing many unique strategies, for example:
-People chasing each other around the ring.
-If someone gets strong enough to hold an island, they will prevent people from advancing clockwise around the ring which could be a good or bad move.
Inside of the ring is the altar. This is a large land mass. In the middle of this is the citadel. The Citadel is worth a bonus to anyone who holds it, so the idea is that while people are fighting around the ring, they will also constantly be taking the citadel to prevent anyone from holding it. The citadel is not part of the altar's bonus.

Some things to note:
-The Citadel could be a huge advantage to anyone that can hold it.
-Someone will start off with the citadel, giving them a bonus right from the start. This could either help them greatly, or make them the main enemy of everyone else.
-This map has extremely exposed territories (meaning that very few are isolated). Since almost every territory can be attacked by many places, the common strategy of leaving ones on most territories and simply fortifying your borders has little use here, as almost every territory will be a border. Because of this, the reinforcement bonuses are fairly high, allowing you to use brute strength to hold areas.

So... any thoughts or suggestions?
