"A vision quest is a rite of passage, which has been used for centuries by native american indians and other aboriginal cultures. After a period of preparation, it usually involves a 3 or 4 day period of being alone, in nature, fasting, having brought along only the bare essentials to survive. Those days are spent in prayer and meditation, reflecting on life and on the changes the quester is faced with. The quester seeks Self-knowledge, and is willing to separate from familiar surroundings in order to find it. Alone in nature, without food or familiar distractions, the quester is faced with Self on as deep a level as he/she is ready and willing to open up to, and so knowledge is found. The quester is then faced with the task of bringing that new self, the new vision, the new understanding or knowledge back into the world, for the benefit of the community."

Thgats teh definition that the site gave. I believe it varies a lot depending on specific culture.

Remember earlier when I went on that 3 day fast? Yeah, fasting has a way of making you look within like no other. I should do another one some time.

Praying is good can I can do that at home rather than going out into a forest to do it.

I did something similar a couple of times but not as extreme. Maybe one day I'd go through a full vision quest.

Somehow I feel it has a happy ending which is odd because you aren't always someone for happy endings.

The vision quest has nothing to do with pleasing God. it's about enlightenment. Discovering oneself.

Yeah, but I'm a work out fiend too, and every time I see parts of this movie I get motivated.

Watch this clip until around 3 minutes. Also take note of specific work-out type shirts in the 80's at 2:40.
