"Live Free or Die" is the official motto of the U.S. state of New Hampshire, adopted by the state in 1945.[1] It is possibly the best-known of all state mottos, partly because it speaks to an assertive independence historically found in American political philosophy and partly because of its contrast to the milder sentiments found in other state mottos.
The phrase comes from a toast written by General John Stark on July 31, 1809. Poor health forced Stark, New Hampshire's most famous soldier of the American Revolutionary War, to decline an invitation to an anniversary reunion of the Battle of Bennington and to send his toast by letter:
Live free or die: Death is not the worst of evils.
The motto was enacted at the same time as the state emblem, on which it appears.

@Hmm... how about that. Kind of makes me wish I didn't just save over the old file after changing the text to Liberty or Death....
But, for the sake of historicity, Liberty or Death was said during the revolution... Live Free or Die was after in 1809.

"Liberty or Death" -- much preferred, good choice.

I always through "Live free or die" went back to the Green Mountain Boys from New Hampshire during the Revolution.... I think I mixed it up with the slogan on the rattlesnake flag, "Don't tread on me."

Yeah, I think "live free or die" is from that general early america period as natty pointed out. But I think I do prefer liberty or death, it has a classier sound to it.

How about "No taxation without representation"?

Join or Die was written by Ben Franklin in 1752, during the French and Indian war... wrong war.
No taxation without representation certainly in in the right era, but might be too long.
I like liberty or death.... but isn't the phrase "GIVE ME liberty or GIVE ME death?"

Right, it's from the Patrick Henry speech. However, I think the shortening of the quotation still retains the meaning of the phrase.

If you can do that, then you could probably drop the "Conn - Connecticut" line at the bottom, and make do with some sort of XML naming like it instead.
As for Connecticut... the reason it's abbreviated is because that area is very congested on the actual map. I just continued it on the mini-map for consistency.
Makes sense - I just thought it would bring a bit more clarity, especially as there is probably room for it on the minimap. As I said before, you can add the abbreviation key to the XML itself, without needing that awkward line at the bottom of the map... But it's your call

Has it struck anyone how very death oriented the founding fathers were? I mean, if a national organization ran all the slogans they did over the years in the 21st c., they'd probably be branded lunatics. It's besides the point, but that's what I'm getting out of this conversation, lol.

Yeah, I agree. Give me liberty or give me death is the correct phrase, just shortened down for the eagle tattoo thing. I dunno, i rather like it as it rings true to the era and still has that nice short slogan feel to it. I'm sure someone said it back then...

Splitting hairs on the slogan. You can bet it was used during the war of independence too.
Well how about using the "Don't tread on me" with the snake.

yeah probably... I was never really a fan of the "Don't tread on me" slogan though. I dunno why just don't really care for it. I do like liberty or death the most though.

Like the Andy said the spirit is there, so lets not dwell on it any further, unless there is any other suggestions?
I know the pluses were one of the issue mentioned in the review but taken off the small map and still being on the large map, but since I can see with and without, I like with pluses better. It points out in the legend/letter what is most important. The pluses look like every common plus sign typed on a computer screen. I'd say put them back on the small map too and see if you can't stretch them to be italicized, if the font can't do it for you.
The placement of the 888 and St Mary could be switched for better clarity. I'm just afraid that the there could be confusion to which numbers is Baltimore since the numbers are close to the name.

Ok... now I've added the + signs.
The problem with St. Mary is that it simply doesn't fit the other way around. I've tried it a number of ways and it doesn't fit. To be frank, there IS a white border line between those numbers and Baltimore, I think it should be fairly obvious to anyone who has played more than 5 games on this site where those numbers belong.

On the small map (now that you mentioned Baltimore and St. Marys) can you ever so slightly tilt Baltimore's text up going from left to right. That will make that border a little easier to see. It is fine on the large map.

Fixed it and reuploaded it on photobucket, the current version should reflect this.

The little line next to the "M" in Massachusetts on the big map legend still needs to be taken off.

Another small thing, can you fix the dotted sea connection to have them that reach but don't touch land and ships? Like you did with Yorktown.

The yellow of NY and NC is so bright that I find it very difficult to see the white internal borders of each of these colony's regions. Could make black boundaries for these colonies or just make the yellow a little darker.
Forgive me if this has already been addressed in the previous 30 pages that I have not read.

Yeah someone mentioned it, but it used to be worse. Does anyone else have this problem or is it just not 100% effortlessly easy to see? I mean, obviously there's some looking required to see each territory, I suppose the names and numbers will help. This sounds like something that could better be addressed in the FF under the scrutiny of testing.
If I switched the borders to black, I'd really look awful though.

Agree with you Helix, black borders aren't the way to go. I think you can make them easier to understand simply working on brightness and contrast for those zones. See the spoiler for a quick example, i think that borders are clearer in this way...
